2024 Queensland Guineas Field & Betting Update on Derby Lead-Up

One of the key feature races on Ladbrokes Park this Saturday is the 2016 Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas, betting tips and the latest odds on the three-years-old showdown found below.
A diminutive but class field of just nine young milers take to the track in Sandown Race 6 at 3:25pm (AEDT) for this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas (1600m).
Heading the latest Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas odds at the race sponsor Ladbrokes.com.au at $2, out from an earlier odds-on quote of $1.80, is Morton’s Fork.
Craig Williams rides the John O’Shea-trained Ad Valorem colt who comes off a Derby Day second behind Comin’ Through in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
He has a consistent record of three wins and four seconds from eight career runs to date, and with a previous run over the mile should be improved enough to score a late spring Group win.
In a tight Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas betting markets the main dangers include the flying Darren Weir-trained High Chaparral filly Jennifer Lynn ($3.90) shooting for her fourth win on the trot and market mover Faraway Town ($7.50) who ran third to Yankee Rose in the autumn’s Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in Sydney.
So will the best in betting get the job done or is there an upset Sandown Guineas result pending from the likes of Adelaide raider Benz ($8.50) or the undefeated Ciaron Maher-trained Domesday colt Ruthven ($9.50)?
He has eased out slightly and is more backable at $2, the favourite looking very hard to beat after the brave second when only just run down by a classy type a fortnight back on Derby Day over the distance. Should have the upside and the improvement after running a strong mile there to improve with the two weeks between runs fourth-up here. Williams stays on and this is wide open.
Money is coming for Matthew Smith’s Not A Single Doubt filly who is third-up this spring and can surprise at a nice price. She was flying in top company as a two-year-old in Sydney including the third to Yankee Rose. Fourth to Prized Icon in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) over this distance and will relish getting back out to it. Can be forgiven for the unplaced run on Melbourne Cup Day down the Flemington straight. Was only beaten 3.25 lengths, this distance and track will suit better.
Juicy Place bet with Chris Parnham continuing his association with this in-form Sam Pritchard-Gordon-trained filly from barrier one. Gets the run of the race, comes off a 1400m win at Pakenham, is Group 3 placed and has the upside to impress getting out over these meters.
