Trainer Anthony Cummings has made the shock decision to withdraw his Fastnet Rock colt Smart Missile from Saturday’s $500,000 Group 1 AJC Inglis Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at the Royal Randwick.

Smart Missile was sensationally scratched at the barriers before last weekend’s $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill and will now also miss out on the consolation prize for connections that would have been a win in the 2011 AJC Sires Produce Stakes.

Cummings informed Racing NSW Stewards on Thursday morning that his unbeaten two-year-old Smart Missile was an early scratching from the AJC Sires Produce Stakes field following a veterinary inspection after trackwork.

The inspection found Smart Missile to be sore behind and the colt will now be sent to the paddock missing the remainder of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

I spoke with the connections and we have decided to look after him (Smart Missile) and we’ll bring him back for the spring,” Cummings told Radio Sport National this morning.

Smart Missile was the $2.50 favourite of the 12-horse AJC Sires Produce Stakes field after drawing well with barrier four.

His withdrawal will see the eight horses originally drawn in barriers 5 – 12 move in one gate.

Bart Cummings’ last-start Rosehill winner Do You Think is now set to start the favourite.

Before Smart Missile’s scratching Do You Think was paying $5.50 in the Sires Produce Stakes odds.

Other top picks in the market include Golden Slipper third placegetter Elite Falls and the Peter Snowden-trained Helmet.

The 2011 Inglis Sires Produce Stakes is scheduled as Race 6 at Randwick on Saturday, due to jump at 3:00pm (AEST).
