Possible Doncaster Mile Start for Bold Glance

Norm Hilton’s Toowoomba galloper Bold Glance is one step closer to gaining a start in the next month’s $2 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) after the five-year-old Sequalo gelding won a feature sprint at the Gold Coast over the weekend.

Bold Glance was back in the winners’ circle on Saturday claiming a gritty victory in the $100,000 Carbine Club Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) on a tough-going bog track.

The Gold Coast was also where Bold Glance scored his best career win to date when taking out the $400,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) ahead of Zero Rock and Captain Sonador in mid January.

A long-shot chance of making the 2011 Doncaster Mile field at the Royal Randwick on April 16, Bold Glance is currently well down the Doncaster order of entry.

Being well down the ballot, Bold Glance is also a real roughie in the futures Doncaster Mile odds at Luxbet sitting at $301 in the market.

Despite claims against, Hilton is still confident Bold Glance has what it takes to run and be competitive in the rich Randwick mile next month.

More Joyous

More Joyous who Bold Glance will face if he makes the 2011 Doncaster Mile field

Hilton will now head to Sydney for the $400,000 Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Day on April 2 where a win would guarantee Bold Glance a shot against More Joyous in the Doncaster Mile.

“He’s earned a crack at some Group One races and he’ll run in the Ryder Stakes next. The winner of that race is exempt from the ballot for the Doncaster,” Hilton said after Saturday’s win.

Regardless of whether Bold Glance makes the Doncaster Mile or not, Hilton is set to bring him back to Queensland to tackle races such as the $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11 during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

Bold Glance, purchased for $21,000 as a yearling, has now won eight of his 26 career starts for over $560,000 in prize money.

Hilton also has Poor Judge nominated for the 2011 Doncaster Mile Handicap, the Royal Academy gelding sitting just better than midway down the order of entry.

More fancied in the Doncaster odds than Bold Glance, Poor Judge is currently paying $81.

After failing to handle the ground and running dead last in the Gold Coast Stakes, however, Hilton will revaluate Poor Judge’s fitness and form before deciding whether to continue onto the Mile with him as well.

Meanwhile, More Joyous is the raging favourite in the Doncaster betting, Gai Waterhouse’s Group 1 winning superstar into $2.30 to win through Luxbet after her smart three length victory in the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Now is the ideal time to get in on the Doncaster Mile betting action before prices firm.

At $76 to Place through Luxbet, laying down a few bucks on Bold Glance to finish in the money behind More Joyous could be the best value bet of the season!
