Despite some earlier “fake news” surrounding a potential scratching of Hong Kong sensation Ka Ying Rising from Saturday’s 2025 The Everest field, the David Hayes trained super sprinter is reportedly going great guns and is ready to strike for punters in the world’s richest turf race.

The confirmed 12 slot holders for this year’s Group 1 $20 million event are locked in and ready to rumble at Randwick on the weekend with Zac Purton also back in Australia to partner the odds-on favourite who boasts a nearly flawless record of 14 wins from 16 starts to date.
A four-time Group 1 winner, the brilliant Shamexpress five-year-old is widely regarded as the fastest sprinter in the world and the money continues to roll in for the visitor who heads The Everest betting at $1.75 through Ladbrokes.com.au to show the locals how it is done.
He was last seen shouldering a demanding 61kg and cruising to a dominant two-length victory over 1200m at Sha Tin on September 7, a performance that signalled he’s primed to tackle Sydney’s spring sprinting ranks.
While proven up to seven-furlongs, his 1200m record is imposing (15:13-2-0), he’s drawn well midfield in gate seven, and he’ll take the power of beating.
Of the Australian trained horses in The Everest 2025 field, the one considered the biggest threat and the only other hopeful at single figures is Joliestar at $6.50 who is prepared by powerhouse trainer Chris Waller.
Joliestar returns for her second Everest tilt representing Chris Waller Racing again and aiming to improve on last year’s brave seventh-place finish.
Now a proven Group 1 performer with wins in the Newmarket Handicap and Kingsford Smith Cup, she’s earned her place among Australia’s elite sprinters.
Her spring campaign began with a dominant win in The Shorts, slashing her Everest odds and confirming she’s ready to go from a favourable barrier five draw with one of Australia’s best – James McDonald – to ride.
Waller is a two-time The Everest winner and also saddles-up Angel Capital ($21) who comes off a Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke fourth in Melbourne and his multiple Group 1 winning mare Lady Shenandoah ($14) who was also fourth in Victoria in her latest behind shock champ Charm Stone in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes – the pair drawn in barriers three and six respectively.
The next best in The Everest betting are Jimmysstar and early market mover War Machine both currently paying $11.
Per Incanto six-year-old Jimmysstar, racing in the silks of Ozzie Kheir who famously won The Everest with Yes Yes Yes in 2019 has emerged as a genuine Group 1 force in 2025, with the Kiwi-bred sprinter finally hitting peak form.
He launched his autumn campaign with a blistering win in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield, then showcased his versatility by claiming the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) in Sydney, defeating high-class mare and fellow The Everest rival Joliestar.
Between those triumphs, he placed third in the William Reid Stakes at The Valley and ran a brave fourth to Briasa in the TJ Smith Stakes over The Everest course and distance.
A potential value runner for this year’s Everest, he resumed with a solid fifth in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m), carrying a hefty 60.5kg and finishing just 1.7 lengths behind Headwall.
He then lost no admirers with a strong second to Briasa in the Group 2 Premiere Stakes, confirming he’s right on track for a peak performance with regular rider Ethan Brown sticking in the saddle from wider out in barrier 11.
The flying War Machine for Lindsay Park made a mess of his rivals fresh taking out the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes at HQ by two lengths with 60kg.
He looks lovely early value now from barrier 4 with Tim Clark to ride, and War Machine has firmed in from his earlier quote of $15.
The other top hope being kept safe in The Everest betting is the ultra-consistent Briasa ($14) to be ridden by Tyler Schiller from gate 10.
Team Hawkes‘ flying Smart Missile five-year-old is a genuine 1200m specialist boasting six wins from seven starts at the distance ahead of his acid test this weekend.
He is already a two-time winner at the track and trip having saluted in the autumn’s TJ Smith Stakes as well as claiming the Premiere Stakes second-up last time out to have him cherry ripe for a shot at bringing down Ka Ying Rising in the big one.
Of the roughie hopes in The Everest one shaping up as potential dark horse bringing in some strong form lines is Maher’s light weight Street Boss filly Tempted ($15) who ran third in the Group 1 Golden Rose at her latest with Craig Williams coming aboard for the ride from barrier one.
The Everest 2025 is set to run as Randwick Race 7 at 4:15pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card in Sydney.
