BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes 2017 Tips & Odds Update

A gun field of two-year-olds face off in the 2017 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday on way to the JJ Atkins, our insider betting tips and the latest odds on the Kingsford-Smith Cup Day showdown found below.

Running as Eagle Farm Race 3 at 1:17pm (AEST), the full 18 starters will take to the track in this year’s $250,000 Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by visiting Kiwi-trained filly Melody Belle ($4.40).

The daughter of Commands is down under for the first time and was last seen winning a Group 1 over the 1400m back home on April 1, form connections are hoping she can bring to the sunshine state starting on Saturday.

Tangled from the stables of Chris Waller is the next best in BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes betting paying $5.50 to post a third straight win, the Snitzel colt coming off a victory in Doomben’s Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m).

With many of the two-year-olds stepping up in either grade or distance and a likely Heavy-rated track on the weekend, should you stick with the favourites or is there value to be found further down the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes odds?

Our 2017 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes Trifecta Tip is #1 Tangled from #8 Mishani Bullitt and #17 Ruby Red Heart

1st

#1 Tangled ($5.50)

Happy to follow the traditional lead-up into the JJ Atkins with Waller’s Champagne Classic winner looking the one to beat again this weekend. He has winning form up to 1350m so the 1400m third-up should suit. Should be nearing peak form and Kerrin McEvoy stays on. Blinkers come on and that’ll help him focus. Still at value odds.

2nd

#8 Mishani Bullitt ($34)

Huge price offered for this proven wet-tracker who could be one of the best in the going at Eagle Farm on weekend. Gets the inside run from barrier one and has winning form over 1400m on a Heavy (8) track last time out at the Sunshine Coast. Brad Stewart stays on the son of Show A Heart who is out to prove himself in the grade. Group 3 sixth to Ours To Keep here on New Year’s Eve was okay, has matured since and this distance / track conditions will suit better.

3rd

#17 Ruby Red Heart ($26)

Another over-the-odds hopeful with top three claims. The John Zielke-trained Show A Heart filly was a brave fifth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic over 1200m at the Gold Coast on May 6 and she did it tough from barrier 14 of 14. Was a $41 roughie, but finished just over two lengths off the winner Taking Aim. That horse is at $8.50 and she’s at $26? Think the improvement will come at this distance and then the mile, happy to include in exotics here.
