The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival lead-ups begin in earnest today, Saturday August 14th, with Caulfield Racecourse host to P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day 2021 and below we take a look over the latest scratchings and track report ahead of the first.

The weather in Melbourne today is for a mostly sunny and cool today, and with just a 10% chance of rainfall the current Good (4) Caulfield track rating looks set to remain across the afternoon.
Caulfield racing gets underway at 12:05pm (AEST) and the nine-race card continues through until the Listed $160,000 Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) jumps at 5:10pm (AEST).
There are three Group status races for punters to enjoy on the program starting with the three-year-old colts and geldings facing off in Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEST) for the Group 3 $200,000 Neds Vain Stakes (1100m).
The 2021 Vain Stakes field features seven nice types with Group 1 ambitions over the coming months following the withdrawal of Jigsaw yesterday afternoon.
and the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by the undefeated Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Generation drawn the rails.
Next-up in Race 7 at 3:55pm (AEST) it is the fillies’ turn in the Group 3 $200,000 Quezette Stakes (1100m) featuring 14 hopefuls including the Peter Moody-trained Gimmie Par.
The meeting’s namesake and feature race is up next with a ten-horse field engaged for the Group $300,000 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at 4:35pm (AEST) led by Group 1 C.F. Orr winner Streets Of Avalon out to improve on his seventh in the race last year.
The Caulfield card also features a special event for Race 4 named in honour of one of our own, dedicated horse racing journalist Mark Mazzaglia, a stalwart in the Brisbane racing scene both on and off track who is going through a health battle.
