Eduardo was absolutely enormous powering home for a huge win carrying the top weight to prove himself a world class sprinter in The Galaxy 2021 results at Rosehill Gardens.
Joe Pride’s Host seven-year-old Eduardo continued his excellent record at the track and distance remaining undefeated over the 1100m at Rosehill with his three and a half-length success in the rescheduled Group 1 $700,000 The Galaxy.
Backing-up from his narrow Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) victory at Randwick over reigning Australian Horse of the Year Nature Strip from the start of the month, Eduardo went out in The Galaxy with 57kg and Nash Rawiller retaining the ride.
There was a good line out and Rawiller was up on the speed early with Eduardo, getting across to the fence to lead ahead of Jonker.
Around the turn and onto the straight, the top-fancied mares Haut Brion Her and Tailleur started their runs, but Eduardo was going far too good and easily outclassed them all.
At the 200m he hit another level, charging home to run his rivals ragged in a dominant Group 1 success over the Danny O’Brien-trained outsider Order Of Command ($26) who was good training on second-up rising in grade.
In a photo for third a further three lengths back six lengths off The Galaxy winner was the Tony Gollan-trained Jonker ($17) off the on-pace run.
Pride celebrated his second The Galaxy success following that of Tiger Tees in 2014 taking the trainer up to a dozen Group 1 victories.
For Rawiller it was elite level win number 54 and his second in The Galaxy after he also partnered with Pride aboard the aforementioned Tiger Tees.
Eduardo could potentially back-up at Royal Randwick on April 10th in the weight-for-age Group 1 $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), a race no The Galaxy winner has gone on to take out in the same season since La Baraka (1998).
All-in 2021 TJ Smith Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au on Eduardo have firmed in notably from $15 to $6 and he now sits second only to Nature Strip ($5).
