Some of the Brisbane Winter Carnival’s most exciting three-year-olds will line up for the Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting standpoint as a result.
Godolphin running Mogador has steadily built to the task this time and remains a $3.60 favourite in Queensland Day Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Barood ($4.40) and Roeinda ($6).
Will Mogador justify his favouritism and win the Queensland Day Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
A representative of the in-from Bjorn Baker stable, Roeinda carries excellent condition into the Queensland Day Stakes and could very well receive the run of the race from the ideal barrier 4, particularly with Michael Cahill in the saddle. Posting two wins and a further four minors through only seven career starts so far, the Lonhro filly resumed from a freshen-up for second in the Schweppes BM72 (1100m) on April 20th before again finishing in the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) on May 14th. Charged with carrying only 55kgs, Roeinda represents terrific value for money at current Queensland Day Stakes odds.
Mogador has returned to racing in typically smart form this time, but may require a run in Brisbane to adapt to the conditions. Resuming for seventh in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m), the Exceed And Excel colt progressed to fifth in the talent-rich TAB.com.au BM85 (1100m) before running fourth in the Isuzu Ute Scone BM77 (1100m) on May 14th. Mogador has been confirmed to be partnered by leading Godolphin hoop James McDonald and will leave from barrier 7 in the Queensland Day Stakes.
Leading Queensland trainer Tony Gollan will saddle Secret Saga in the Queensland Day Stakes, who will leave undoubtedly require luck in running from barrier 11, but who is worth consideration for a bet at current odds. Charging home to win the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben in late November, Secret Saga returned to the paddock following a luckless run in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) in December. Resuming this time for third in the Listed Bribie Handicap (1050m), the daughter of Real Saga placed mid-field in the Green Options Racing 3.y.o Handicap (1050m) a fortnight ago and is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from the run.
