Seven two-year-old will line up for Saturday’s 2016 Silver Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting perspective and offering punters several opportunities to take advantage of value.

Godolphin entrant Astern is a leading fancy for the 2016 Golden Slipper and remains clear $1.55 favourite in 2016 Silver Slipper betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Defcon ($3.40) and Mount Panorama ($8).

Will Astern justify his resounding favouritism and win the 2016 Silver Slipper or will one of his classy rivals cause the day’s big upset at Rosehill?

Astern ($1.55)

Astern has not been seen at the races since early December but has trialled well in the lead-up to the 2016 Silver Slipper and will be very hard to beat on Saturday. Jumping from the gates well in the Surf Meets Turf Maiden Plate (1000m), Astern received a good run in transit before mustering an impressive turn of foot to hit the line close to three lengths in the clear of his closest rivals. Hugh Bowman takes the ride on the Medaglia D’oro colt who will leave from barrier 5.

Mount Panorama ($8)

Mount Panorama has improved drastically through his short racing career so far and undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money in 2016 Silver Slipper Stakes betting markets. Trialling well amongst notably company prior to his competitive debut, Mount Panorama ran sixth in a Randwick minor over 1100m on January 16^th before making a good transition to black type racing when third in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) on January 30^th. Tommy Berry takes the ride on the Sebring colt from the rails draw in the Silver Slipper.

Defcon ($3.40)

Defcon has appeared on course only once competitively but has displayed plenty of ability and class and is sure to be given a gem of a ride from Blake Shinn in the Silver Slipper. Unlucky to be hampered from the barriers in the Canonbury Stakes, Defcon produced an impressive all-round performance to run home for a close second. Perhaps requiring some luck in transit after drawing the outside barrier 7, Defcon’s proven class will likely count for a lot in the Silver Slipper.
