Six 2015 Perth Cup Nominations for Durrant

Perth Cup 2015 nominations for the New Year’s Day classic at Ascot Racecourse are now out with local trainer Adam Durrant leading the entries numbers-wise with six possible starters in the mile and a half showdown.

A total of 42 gallopers are nominated for January 1’s $492,575 Group 2 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400m), six of which come from the Lark Hill stables of Durrant who first won the race in 2010 with Lords Ransom for breeder-owners Bob and Sandra Peters.

This weekend in WA Durrant will saddle-up two chances plus an emergency in WA Oaks runner-up Real Love in the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) with beaten 2013 Perth Cup favourite Chester Road and former Railway Stakes winner Mr Moet having their Perth Cup lead-ups in the weight-for-age clash.

Mr Moet bypassed this year’s Perth Cup but was runner-up to Talent Show, the now eight-year-old Jeune mare another 2015 nominee, in the 2013 edition when carrying the 59kg top weight.

Also in the Perth Cup mix for Durrant are Pants On Firar, WA Oaks third placegetter Real Charm and five-year-old Western Blaze who has won his past two at the track in November.

Other notable Kingston Town Classic runners this weekend nominated for the Perth Cup include Railway Stakes runner-up Balmont Girl, reigning Kingston Town Classic champ Ihtsahymn for Fred Kersley, recent RJ Peters Stakes winner Bass Strait and the Grant Williams-trained WATC Derby winner from April Respondent.

Williams, who saddles-up Railway Stakes winner Elite Belle in the Kingston Town, has also nominated for Dark Delight and the in-form Iffraaj mare Fashion Princess in the Perth Cup.

One of the likely favourites in Perth Cup betting at Ladbrokes.com.au meanwhile will be the Justin Warwick-trained Global Flirt.

The veteran McFlirt eight-year-old jumped at $101 odds to win the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) on November 22 but stole the show in a massive boil over, his price for the Perth Cup set to be much firmer.

Second and third over the line in the Tattersall’s Cup, a traditional Perth Cup lead-up, are also nominated for the New Year’s Day showdown with Global Flirt’s stable mate Son Of Something and Kirov Boy.

Before his second in the Tattersall’s, Blackfriars five-year-old Son Of Something ran eighth in the Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) on the back of a Listed Northam Cup (1600m) victory.

The Mayalup-based Warwick won this year’s Perth Cup with Black Tycoon and has also nominated for his Verglas mare Lucciola who was one and a quarter lengths away fifth in the Tattersall’s Cup and Uncle George this season.

Ascot Gold Cup winner Pop Culture for Colin Webster is also nominated for the Perth Cup, the six-year-old Blackfriars mare out to atone for her 11th to Global Flirt in the Tattersall’s Cup on Railway Stakes Day.

Other notable Perth Cup nominations include the Kersley-trained Coolgardie Cup third placegetter Operational, this year’s runner-up God Has Spoken, Knightlike who was fifth this year under two lengths off the winner, Dan Morton’s Tattersall’s Cup fourth placed Boulder Cup winner Red Blast and last start winner over 2200m at ascot Starlight Lady.

The sole interstate nominations are then the Darren Weir-trained duo of Mabaco and Martinvast.
