2014 The Nivison Tips & Selections

The feature race for mares in Sydney this weekend is the Group 3 City Tattersalls Club Nivison (1200m), with betting tips set out below.

There are 13 mares on the field for Saturday’s race at Royal Randwick Racecourse, running as Race 8 at 5:25pm (AEDT).

Four of the entries are available at single figure odds in the 2014 Nivison betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au, led strongly by Avoid Lightning ($3.10).

The Les Bridge-trained mare will get a start from the middle of the field after drawing barrier seven with Tim Clark to ride.

The mare’s only start this spring was a barrier trial at Randwick two weeks ago, which she won, but punters are keen to remember her impressive winter season that included two wins and a minor placing at the top level of racing.

The other runners offering single figure odds are I’ve Got The Looks ($5), My Sabeel ($7), and Brook Road ($9).

Our 2014 The Nivison trifecta is #7 I've Got The Looks from #4 My Sabeel and #3 Avoid Lightning
Check out our betting tips for the 2014 Nivison below.

1st

#7 I’ve Got The Looks ($5)

Peter & Paul Snowden’s mare will not only enjoy a great start in The Nivison from barrier two, she’ll also carry the lowest weight of 54kg, up to four kilos less than some of her rivals on the field. Has had three spring starts, all at Randwick over similar distance to the Nivison. She won her first minor race before just missing out in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Premiere Stakes (1200m), placing fifth in both. However she was a very fast-finisher her last time out in the Premiere, just two lengths off winner Famous Seamus.

2nd

#4 My Sabeel ($7)

This seven-year-old mare is in good form following five spring starts. She won the Group 3 Two Show Quality (1300m) in August by an impressive 4.5 lengths and placed in her two last starts, the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) and Golden Pendant (1400m). She has shown she can still place from wide barriers after a third in the Golden Pendant from gate 10 but will need to overcome a start from the widest barrier in the Nivison.

3rd

#3 Avoid Lightning ($3.10)

This six-year-old mare is favourite for a reason. She may not have had a spring start yet but her impressive winter season campaign is enough to judge her on. She enjoyed back-to-back minor race wins before stepping up to the highest level of racing, holding her own for a very fast-finishing third in the Group 1 Tattersalls Tiara (1400m) in June. Showed she can still bring it home in her barrier trial win a fortnight ago.
