Thursday’s 2012 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic field has had its first defector with Melbourne horseman Robert Smerdon opting to scratch his unbeaten filly Calcatta from the race.
Considered the premier lead up to the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic in Queensland next month, the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) originally drew a final field of 13 hopefuls.
That is now down to 12 with Calcatta to be saved for a different lead-up to January’s $2 million classic after she drew awkwardly out wide with barrier 12.
Calcatta is currently 20th in the Magic Millions Gold Coast Classic order of entry and will look to secure her spot in the summer’s most lucrative thoroughbred event by racing at Caulfield in Melbourne on Boxing Day, December 26.
Wyong Magic Millions Classic odds meanwhile are led by Certitude who has the ideal barrier three draw.
Other top fancies then include the unraced Gerald Ryan-trained Mossman colt Dothraki who won their Rosehill trail in early December and Clarry Conners’ Charge Forward filly Assail a winner on debut at Warwick Farm last month.
