A trip to Adelaide for a shot at Group 1 fame is on the cards for Mick Price’s speedy mare Dubleanny after she claimed an impressive victory at Flemington last Saturday, March 5.
Four-year-old Dubleo mare Dubleanny scored an emphatic 1 ¾ length win first-up for the season in the $100,000 Mrs Mac’s Beef Pie Sprint (1100m) at Flemington’s Australian Guineas Day over the weekend.
Connections including trainer Price have named the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), a weight-for-age fillies and mares’ event, at Morphettville on March 26 as the next major aim for Dubleanny.
Saturday’s success saw Dubleanny increase her record to six wins from 11 starts and boosted her total earnings to $341,925 in prize money.
The Robert Sangster Stakes will be known this year as the Sportingbet Classic.
Price took out the Robert Sangster two years ago with his daughter of Bel Esprit Bel Mer and also prepared last year’s runner-up Velocitea who was beaten less than a length by Rostova.
Nominations for the Robert Sangster Stakes close on Tuesday March 15 followed by the final field of acceptances on Wednesday March 23.
