Pressday stakes claim for 2011 Australian Guineas with trial win

Chris Waller’s talented colt Pressday improved their claims for the 2011 Australian Guineas with a win in their Rosehill barrier trial yesterday.

Three-year-old Domesday colt Pressday has been the model of consistency over his eight race career amassing three wins and close to $835,000 in prize money.

Pressday was successful at his first Group 1 assignment winning the T.J. Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June last year and after one hiccup beating home just two runners in the Coolmore Stud Stakes first-up in the spring, went on to claim victory in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) last start on November 13.

After running third in their first barrier trial for the year on January 24, yesterday Pressday showed great improvement winning his 900m heat at the Gardens.

Nominated for the $750,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 5, Pressday is currently sitting at a quote of around $15 in the Australian Guineas futures odds at Luxbet.

Clear favourite in the market is Star Witness at $6, Danny O’Brien’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner also nominated for the 2011 Australian Cup and 2011 Newmarket Handicap on Flemington’s Super Saturday of Racing, March 5.
