Redzel stamped himself as the best sprinter in Australia with an outstanding victory in the 2017 Darley Classic at Flemington this afternoon.

Redzel showed his trademark gate speed and Kerrin McEvoy was able to get him to the outside rail as the Darley Classic field split into two groups.

The likes of Impending and Super Cash took up the challenge to Redzel at the 400 metre mark, but McEvoy hadn’t asked Redzel to go yet and The Everest winner kicked clear of his rivals when he asked for an extra effort.

Terravista flew home in the final stages of the Darley Classic, but Redzel already had the race won and the outstanding sprinter was still very strong on the line.

McEvoy has developed an outstanding affinity with Redzel during the 2017 Spring Racing Carnival and he was clearly delighted to have claimed another feature race win on the best sprinter in Australia.

“He is an unassuming horse and I am surprised that he has got too where he is, but he has taken all before him now,” McEvoy said.

“He is racing with great heart and his record is fantastic.

“He is just getting better and better and that is all due to the fact that the Snowdens were patient with him.

“They are reaping the awards now.

“He has a good cruising speed and when I pressed the button at the 400 he was too strong for them again.

“He is as adaptable down the straight as he is around a corner.

“I am lucky to be apart of his career.

“The last win was fantastic and it is great to bring him here during the big week and get a win as well.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden and his son Paul have done a simply outstanding job with Redzel during his racing career to date and the older trainer was emotional to have claimed another big win.

Snowden believes that Redzel has still be underrated by the general public as well as racing experts and he is now adamant that there is no better sprinter anywhere in Australia.

“He is such an easy horse to train and Paul and I both feel very privileged to have a horse with this horse’s ability.

“He makes our job so much easier and he is so strong now.

“He has learnt his craft really well and Kerrin often says that he is his favourite horse to ride because of the pattern that he has now.

“He has good speed, he switches off and everytime you ask he keeps giving.

“For a trainer you can’t ask for anymore than that.”

Terravista continued his affiliation with the Flemington straight with a fast-finishing second, while Impending was able to back-up his close second in the Sydney Stakes with a third place finish.
