A host of Crown Oaks-bound fillies face off in Saturday’s 2016 Ethereal Stakes, betting tips and the updated odds for the Caulfield Cup Day feature found below.

Fifteen three-year-old fillies are accepted for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 New Zealand Bloodstock Ethereal Stakes (2000m), the first five in market order at single-figures to win through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Early favourite at $3.50 in the Ethereal Stakes odds is the Lindsay Park-trained Sebring Dream, well-fancied to overcome her wide barrier 13 draw and improve on her sixth as a $31 roughie in last Saturday’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).

The other best in Ethereal Stakes betting this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival include Kiwi raider Eleonora ($5), the drifting Dulcify Quality winner in Sydney last time out Moqueen ($3.60 out to $5.50) and market mover Bella Sorellastra ($8.50 into $6.50) in the outside alley coming off a Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes second.

So do the bookies have the order of the odds right or is there value tipping a different Ethereal Stakes result from a longer-priced fancy such as the James Cummings-trained Savabeel filly Savvan ($9) or the Darren Weir-trained up-and-comer Tiamo Grace ($15)?

#4 Savvan ($9)

Price is easing on this nicely-bred and improving filly who races in Black-Type company and in Melbourne for the first time. She takes on some class types here, but looks up to the challenge based on her recent Kembla Grange win over a mile. Seems to be crying out for further and she gets that here so over the extra metres this up-and-comer can surprise and hit the line hard from an on-pace run from the wide alley.

#3 Bella Sorellastra ($6.50)

Plenty of money rolling in for this Peter Morgan & Craig Widdison-trained Lope De Vega filly, and it could be worth following that trail. She stepped up in class a fortnight ago at Flemington for the Edward Manifold and did well from the wide alley (15 of 15) to cross second. That was brave, she’ll be better for the run and gets more meters here allowing her to close the gap off a similar run from the same barrier draw.

#2 Sebring Dream ($3.50)

The wider gate (13) actually looks like it will work in the favour of the fillies in this line-up, including the favourite on the short turnaround. She is fourth-up now and should be at peak fitness. Her effort in the Thousand Guineas last Saturday was better than it looks on paper after closing late having sat back in a race dominated by those up front. Things can play out better for her here over 2000m.
