2016 Magic Millions Trophy Odds & Betting Tips

The fifth race on the Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day card on Saturday is the Magic Millions Trophy 2016 for the staying types, betting tips and the latest odds for which can be found below.

Tinto

Due to jump at 2:00pm this year’s $1 million Crown Resorts Magic Millions Trophy (1800m), formerly the Magic Millions Stayers Cup, field is at capacity.

Betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, the only bookmaker offering an incredible Best Tote or SP + 20% on every Gold Coast race on Saturday, is firmly led by Peter Robl’s last start Listed Bernborough Handicap (1615m) winner Centre Pivot.

The More Than Ready five-year-old carried 57.5kg to victory in Brisbane last time out, has winning form up to 1800m and gets a gun run from gate two with Blake Shinn aboard this weekend.

He does however have to carry equal top weight of 59.5kg and has had a change of stables, but with blinkers on again keeping him sharp over the distance he has the class to overcome the kilos.

The next best in betting and also carrying 59.5kg is last year’s winner Tinto after her fifth win from six starts at the Gold Coast where she won last time out over 1800m on Boxing Day with 60kg on her back.

She is drawn the rails, has Brisbane’s best Damian Browne retaining the ride and is a former Queensland Oaks winner so has plenty of ability.

The other two hopes under double figures for the win are Bernborough Handicap third placed four-year-old Worthy Cause ($5.50) also drawn ideally in barrier four and the early market mover Jumbo Prince ($7.50) in gate eight for jockey Michael Cahill.

So can the top two heaviest weighted hopes battle it out in the finish or is there value further down the Magic Millions Trophy betting odds from the likes of last start Flemington winner Longeron ($11) or the widely-drawn Hopfgarten ($10) who Craig Williams rides this weekend?

Our 2016 Magic Millions Trophy Trifecta Tip is #2 Tinto from #4 Worthy Cause and #8 Longeron

1st

#2 Tinto ($4.80)

The defending champion carries top weight this year but looks the goods to win again and continue her gun record at the Gold Coast (5-4-0-0). She overcame half a kilo more to salute at the track and distance on Boxing Day from a wide barrier and will be getting a smoother run from the inside alley this weekend with Browne back in the saddle again. She is undefeated over 1800m (3-3-0-0), all of those wins being at the Gold Coast, and is a Group 1 winner who looks hard to beat.

2nd

#4 Worthy Cause ($5.50)

John Zielke prepares this Choisir stallion at the Sunshine Coast and the horse travels down for his third Gold Coast run this weekend. He has a solid record at the track to date (2-1-0-1) and was very competitive in Melbourne over the spring. He defeated subsequent Emirates Stakes winner Turn Me Loose in a Listed Flemington race in October and later was third in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) at Sandown. Comes off the third to Centre Pivot in the Bernborough in Brisbane and will relish the step back up in distance here dropping weight from his last run.

3rd

#8 Longeron ($11)

Barrier six will suit this Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Lonhro six-year-old to a tee and top hoop Tommy Berry, who has plenty of Magic Millions winning form, is a big plus. The horse won over 2000m in Melbourne last month and has good 1800m form (3-1-1-0) as well. He ran a nice trial on January 4 and looks fit and ready to fire on the 54kg minimum.
