Trainer David Vandyke is thrilled with the condition of talented stayer Husson Choice leading into Saturday’s Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) on the Sunshine Coast, and is confident the addition of local hoop Tegan Harrison to the saddle could mean the difference in success.
Husson Choice has posted four wins and a further ten minors through his 20 career starts so far, and carries great condition into the 2015 Queensland Cup after finishing third in each of the Sydney Stayers Cup (3200m) and TAB.com.au Handicap (2600m) most recently.
Confident his runner is a leading chance for success, Vandyke told AAP he is thrilled to have confirmed Harrison for the ride in the 2015 Queensland Cup.
“I must say Tegan was very keen for the ride. In fact she nearly drove me mad chasing it,” Vandyke said.
“She is among the top riders in Queensland and she will know the track.
“He has had a good solid preparation for this race and has already been over 3200 metres this campaign when third.
“His last start was over 2600m when he was third again so we know he will run out a strong 3200m which is more than you can say for a lot of them in this race.”
Vandyke has identified Stayers Cup winner Lovethebeaches as the horse to beat in the 2015 Queensland Cup, but is confident the classy stayer can be beaten.
“Surely the other jockeys won’t let him (Lovethebeaches) get that far in front again, and the Sunshine Coast has an uphill straight (so you don’t want to use too much energy early),” he said.
Harrison is equally thrilled to have picked up the ride on Husson Choice in the Queensland Cup and believes she is ready to go following a brief time away from racing.
“I have had a good freshen up and I am looking forward to Saturday. I want to finish the season off well,” Harrison said.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Queensland Cup odds, for which Husson Choice can be taken at a quote of $5.50 for success.
