Streama Claims Strong Win in 2014 Hollindale Stakes

Talented and consistent performer Streama has produced a strong sprint in the final straight to win the featured Group 2 Wimmers Soft Drinks A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast ahead of Mr O’Ceirin and Precedence.

Jumping from the gates only fairly, the Stratum mare settled well off the pace of early leaders Fat Al, Flying Home and Mr O’Ceirin, who set a noticeably quick tempo over the back straight and approaching the bend.

Appearing to be blocked for a run when finding the early stage of the final straight, Streama quickly found a clear racing line, overcoming the damp Gold Coast track to finish a length in the clear and return to the winner’s circle ahead of her tilt at further Group 1 success throughout the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

A three-time Group 1 winner, Streama has been a standout performer in each of her racing preparations since debuting at the start of 2011, but was particularly impressive over the winter/spring of 2013; finishing an unlucky second in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) and working towards a resounding victory in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600M) on September 21st.

While unable to break through for a race win over five autumn starts, Streama was a typically consistent performer; finishing sixth in both the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) and finishing fourth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) only one race prior to this afternoon’s triumph.

Cutting the corner to figure in prime running position, Mr O’Ceirin was unlucky to finish second in the 2014 Hollindale Stakes.

Finishing a disappointing eleventh in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) in his only appearance in 2014 prior to this afternoon’s Gold Coast feature, trainer Ciaron Maher was confident the Postponed gelding would figure in contention on a damp surface.

Lining up for the Hollindale Stakes as without doubt the field’s most experienced runner, Precedence received an ideal run to finish third in his maiden 2014 race this afternoon.

Adding a ninth minor result to what is now a record of 10 victories and nine places from 57 competitive start, Precedence has been a mainstay in major events since debuting on track in 2008, and appears to have returned to racing in typically strong form.

Outlining several events over the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, co-trainer Bart and James Cummings will be offered a great chance of further success with Precedence in what will possibly be his final preparation.
