Leading trainers Gai Waterhouse and Chris Waller will both have two runners in the Listed Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) that will be run at the Wyong Race Club this Friday.
The Waterhouse duo is on the top of the 2013 Wyong Gold Cup final field with Julienas (61kg), Kinnersley (56.5kg) the only horses that will carry more than the minimum weight in the race.
Julienas is coming off a strong first-up effort Tee in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m), where he finished a narrow second behind Coup Ay Tee despite carrying the top weight of 59kg.
The Cape Cross gelding has a strong second-up record since arriving in Australia at the end of 2011 and despite being forced to carry a heavy weight will start the race as one of the favourites to win the race for the second year in a row.
Kinnersley finished a disappointing ninth in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup but will be looking to recapture the form that saw him finish third behind Coup Ay Tee and classy import Bayrir in the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill on August 3.
The Al Maher gelding has been inconsistent throughout his career but does have a strong record in provincial cups.
Chris Waller-trained Sacred Flyer had a two race winning streak ended by Lucripetous in the Comfort Inn Hunts Handicap (2200m) at Warwick Farm last Saturday but has performed well this campaign and will lead the Waller charge in the Wyong Gold Cup.
The lightly-raced seven-year-old is at his best over the distance of the Wyong Gold Cup and he recorded gutsy wins in the Hungry Jack’s Handicap (2000m) and the Tab.Com.Au Handicap (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens earlier this preparation.
Also flying the flag for Waller will be six-year-old Wazn who has performed poorly since returning to the races in July.
Other interesting inclusions in the 2013 Wyong Gold Cup final field are Stephen Farley-trained Gazza Guru, enigmatic stayer Peal Of Bells and Hawkesbury Gold Cup front runner Samui Lad.
The final Wyong Gold Cup 2013 field and barrier draw can be found in the table below.
