Budriguez Tops 2013 Victoria Handicap Nominations – Easter Saturday Racing

David Jolly’s last start Blamey Stakes co-winner Budriguez will look to take home first prize all on their own this Saturday when the talented Adelaide stayer lines up in the Victoria Handicap 2013 at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse.

One of 15 nominees for this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) the Al Maher six-year-old posted their first Group 2 triumph at Flemington on March 9 when dead-heating for first with current 2013 Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune in the Blamey Stakes (1600m).

They drop back 200m for their run on the weekend where they will go up one kilo as the 59kg topweight.

There are three other last-start winners nominated for the Victoria Handicap including the Peter Snowden-trained Launay.

The six-year-old Lonhro gelding enjoyed a good second-up victory at Flemington over 1400m on March 2 and will drop back from 59.5kg to 57kg giving them a boost here.

The other last start winners are then the David Payne-trained Centennial Park coming off a Listed Super Saturday victory at Flemington, and Tony Vasil’s Mossman five-year-old Under The Eiffel after their third on the tort.

Other notable hopes in the mix then include Bart Cummings’ 57.5kg second top-weight Precedence who hasn’t raced since their Sandown Classic third back in November, fellow first-up runner C’est La Guerre who races for the first time since February 2011 and who was third in the 2008 Melbourne Cup, and Super Saturday Stakes third placed British General.
