Driefontein Heads 2012 Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes Field

Classy Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Driefontein heads an eight-horse field for the $100,000 2012 Magic Millions Wyong 3Yo Stakes (1200m) which will take place on Thursday.

Driefontein kicks off her Magic Millions campaign at Wyong on Thursday

The winner of four of seven starts and more than $1.4 million will be having her first start since her spring campaign was cut short after just one start due to injury.

After an impressive juvenile career, Driefontein showed plenty of promise in her one spring outing in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes when she beat home Caulfield Guineas winner All Too Hard to finish second to top sprinter Snitzerland.

As a two-year-old Driefontein won the first four starts of her career including the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes, the $2 million Magic Millions Classic and the Listed Widden Stakes before finishing sixth to stablemate Pierro in the Golden Slipper.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock showed she has fully recovered from injury with two recent trials at Randwick including a three-length win over 1000 metres on December 3.

Taking on Driefontein at Wyong on Thursday will be Shivarchi who is chasing a third consecutive win and will be out to keep his unbeaten record alive after backing up a debut win at Kembla Grange in October with a one-length win at Gosford on October 6.

Also with the chance to post a third straight win is Jenny Graham’s Port Macquaire-based filly Rebel Dancer who produced dominant performances at Kempsey and Port Macquaire in November.

Also contesting the the Wyong Magic Millions 3Yo Stakes are last-start winner Delagos, the Bjorn Baker-trained Fuming and David Pfieffer’s Cheer’s Rihanna.
