Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous is set to start the shortest-priced favourite at this Saturday’s Golden Slipper Day programme at Rosehill when she lines up in the $400,000 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) and with her outstanding record, form, status and class she is the obvious tip to win.
The 2011 Queen of the Turf Stakes, running as Rosehill Race 3 on Saturday at 1:05pm (AEDST), will be More Joyous’ fourth run this season.
The John Singleton-owned daughter of More Than Ready remains unbeaten this prep with victories in the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m), Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) last start by an impressive three lengths on March 19 at Rosehill.
If it were not for the freakish Black Caviar, More Joyous would likely be hailed as the best Australian race horse of today and her firm $1.27 odds to win the Queen of the Turf Stakes are well deserved.
Her connections rate her, the public and the punters rate her, the bookies rate her and the Races.com.au team have her rated special to win.
The list is endless as to why More Joyous can and will win.
– 76% Win Rate
– Four time Group 1 winner
– Coming off three straight wins
– Only beaten once in last 12 starts
– Ideal distance, she won the Tea Rose Stakes in September 2009 at this track and distance and is unbeaten over the mile so 100m less suites to a tee
– Drawn well in barrier two
A $21 outsider in the Queen of the Turf Stakes markets, the Peter Moody-trained Set For Fame will add nice value to the Exacta bets.
She is coming off a game third in a Listed feature at Flemington where she was drawn in the far outside barrier of a 14-horse field, racing at Rosehill for the first time but is a genuine runner who can pull out a powerful late burst to run second to the favourite.
Smart Encosta De Lago mare, won a Listed feature at Warwick Farm over 1400m in a good effort two starts back before finishing a game second to Aloha in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic at this track and distance last start. Only query is the weight.
Won’t pay out with the small field, but adds interest.
Below is the latest 2011 Queen of the Turf Stakes odds provided by Luxbet.
