Morphettville Results – Group 3 Auraria Stakes 2011

The Group 3 Auraria Stakes or Schweppervescence Stakes at Morphettville has been won by Shylight thanks to a wonderful ride by Glen Boss.

Always Discreet was the early leader with Shylight sitting right on her heels before Boss executed his pre-race plan.

He went extremely early on the filly in a bold move with 600m to go and streaked ahead to lead by a couple of lengths coming into the strait.

She looked the winner right down the strip until she slowed in the final 100m.

That’s where a tide of late contenders made a dash with Southern Speed travelling the fastest and lunging on the line.

It wasn’t enough though and she was beaten by a nose sending the connections of Shylight into a frenzy.

It’s not the first time Boss has won the race in this manner pulling off a similar trick on Princess Pulse two years ago.

Traditionally horses will move from this race to the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks over 2000m and then those that are game will tackle the 2400m Group 3 Sportingbet Fillies Classic.

Behind Shylight and Southern Speed was Absolutely and Precious Lorraine, both of which will have the chance to exact revenge as they move through the three race legs.
