There is plenty happening in the world of racing today, Wednesday February 23, with six cracker race meetings scheduled to take place around the country.

With a number of exciting metropolitan meets including race days at Sandown, Canterbury and Doomben, and a Group status race also on the agenda, the midweek racing action is top class.

Headlining today’s line-up is the $225,000 Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) scheduled to run as Race 7 on the bumper 10-race programme at Launceston Racecourse, jumping at 4:09pm (AEDST).

The 2011 Launceston Cup field features 16 quality stayers lead by $4.80 favourite Bid Spotter seeking back-to-back Cup wins in Tassie having scored in the Hobart Cup last start on February 13.

There are also two other black-type features on the Launceston race card today with Race 8 the $100,000 Listed Eliza Park Vamos Stakes (1400m) and Race 9 the $100,000 Listed Tatt’s Group George Adams Plate (1600m) set to run.

One of the major metro meets this Wednesday is at Canterbury where the first of seven races, the $27,000 Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Handicap Heat of Rising Star (1550m), will get things underway at 1:17pm (AEDST) and to win we are tipping hot favourite #3 Markab.

The Brisbane Racing Club is due to host an exciting seven-race programme at Doomben today, Queensland’s best Wednesday race meet due to kick off at 1:42pm (AEDST) with the $13,000 Austereo Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1030m).

Doomben Race 7 – the $13,000 Carlton Mid Class 3 Plate (1030m) at 5:28pm (AEDST) is shaping up as a beauty and our tip to win is #1 Reilly Blue for trainer Norm Hilton.
