Midweek Horse Racing – Wednesday February 23

There is plenty happening in the world of racing today, Wednesday February 23, with six cracker race meetings scheduled to take place around the country.

With a number of exciting metropolitan meets including race days at Sandown, Canterbury and Doomben, and a Group status race also on the agenda, the midweek racing action is top class.

Headlining today’s line-up is the $225,000 Group 3 Launceston Cup (2400m) scheduled to run as Race 7 on the bumper 10-race programme at Launceston Racecourse, jumping at 4:09pm (AEDST).

The 2011 Launceston Cup field features 16 quality stayers lead by $4.80 favourite Bid Spotter seeking back-to-back Cup wins in Tassie having scored in the Hobart Cup last start on February 13.

There are also two other black-type features on the Launceston race card today with Race 8 the $100,000 Listed Eliza Park Vamos Stakes (1400m) and Race 9 the $100,000 Listed Tatt’s Group George Adams Plate (1600m) set to run.

Below is a list of all the TAB meets running in Australia today including the jump time of race one on each card, the highlight events at each race day and our Wednesday horse racing tips for the features.

  • Strathalbyn (SA)Race 1 jumps at 12:50pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

In South Australia Strathalbyn Racecourse will host a bumper nine-race card today starting with the $10,000 Associated Marine Insurers Agents Pty Ltd SABOIS Maiden Plate (2050m) at 12:50pm (AEDST).

Best race at Strathalbyn looks to be Race 5 – the $10,000 Pacific Premium Funding SABOIS Fillies & Mares Class 2 Handicap (1100m) at 3:10pm (AEDST) where we are tipping #4 Our Joy to win despite their wide draw.

  • Canterbury (NSW)Race 1 jumps at 1:17pm (AEDST) – Bet now at Luxbet

One of the major metro meets this Wednesday is at Canterbury where the first of seven races, the $27,000 Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Handicap Heat of Rising Star (1550m), will get things underway at 1:17pm (AEDST) and to win we are tipping hot favourite #3 Markab.

Lots of top class Handicap events at Canterbury today including the last race on the card, Race 7 – the $27,000 Winning Post Restaurant Handicap (1100m) due to jump at 4:57pm (AEDST) and where we fancy the lightly-raced #8 Rain Affair.

Victoria’s Betfair Park Sandown Lakeside will come alive today with seven quality races set to run starting at 1:35pm (AEDST) with the $30,000 Rokk Ebony Handicap (3100m).

In Sandown Race 1 we like the super consistent #3 Star Of Jeune to win for Patrick Payne.

Other events not to miss at Sandown include Race 4 – the $30,000 Patinack Farm Handicap (2100m) at 3:20pm (AEDST) where our money is on #3 Skybee paying nice odds, and Race 5 – the $30,000 Betfair Handicap (1600m) at 3:58pm (AEDST) where #3 Lonherign has the form and ideal inside draw for an upset win over the mile.
