2011 CS Hayes Stakes Nominations – Lightning Stakes Day

The 2011 Coolmore Lightning Stakes Day is set to take place at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday February 19 and as part of the action the $200,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) will run.

A set weights plus penalties race for three-year-old colts and geldings, the 2011 CS Hayes Stakes has attracted 21 nominations including last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva.

The Peter Moody-trained Anacheeva is second up for the season having run a somewhat disappointing seventh when resuming in the Listed Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on January 26.

Anacheeva is expected to improve after their initial season start, the Anabaa colt heading towards the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 5 for which they are the current favourite to win at Luxbet in the early Australian Guineas odds.

The other top elect in the Australian Guineas betting is Enjin Number Nine, also nominated for the CS Hayes Stakes on Saturday.

Enjin Number Nine claimed an upset win at Sandown on February 9 beating a quality field in the Listed Manfred Stakes (1300m) at just their fourth career start.

The horses that finished two-three behind Zenno Rob Roy gelding Enjin Number Nine in the Manfred were the Peter Snowden-trained Bullbars and dual Group 1 winner Star Witness and both are set to face off against Enjin Number Nine again in the CS Hayes.

Other notable horses nominated for the 2011 CS Hayes stakes include Dusty Star and Under The Eiffel who finished one-two in the Group 2 D’Urban Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last Saturday, February 12.

General Nediym gelding Dusty Star came within a second of Exceed And Excel’s D’Urban Stakes race record with their stunning all-the-way win on the weekend, coming home a length ahead of beaten favourite Under The Eiffel.

One noteworthy three-year-old missing from the CS Hayes Stakes nominations is the Robert Smerdon-trained Eclair Mystic.

The Stratum gelding won the Zeditave Stakes two starts back before running a game third in the D’Urban on Saturday but connections have not entered them for Saturday’s showdown.

The 2011 CS Hayes Stakes final field of 16-starters and barrier draw will be released on Wednesday and published here at Races.com.au along with a comprehensive form guide and betting analysis so bookmark us.

This Saturday’s Flemington meet also features the latest Group 1 autumn showdown with Black Caviar resuming in the Lightning Stakes.
