Carlyon Cup Results – Lord Pyrus Wins CF Orr Stakes Day Race 2

Lord Pyrus

Lord Pyrus wins the Group 3 Carlyon Cup at Caulfield

Race favourite Lord Pyrus has scored victory in the $125,000 Group 3 Rokk Ebony Carlyon Cup (1600m) at CF Orr Stakes Day this afternoon taking out the first Group race on the Caulfield card and giving the punters another win.

The best tried runner in the Carlyon Cup field, Lord Pyrus was the market mover in the odds having been backed into the firm favourite at a quote of around $4 at Luxbet.

Drawn in the far outside barrier proved no issue for the five-year-old who was ridden to perfection by jockey Craig Williams.

Williams must have known he had this one in the bag after the first 200m when Lord Pyrus burst out of the boxes brilliantly, coming up fast on the outside to find the lead.

Controlling the race and dictating the pace, Lord Pyrus maintained their front running position over the entire mile.

On the home straight the favourite kicked away to extend their lead and cruise to an emphatic two length victory over the David Hayes-trained Voile Rouge, Robbie Griffith’s It’s Prince a neck away for third.

Connections including Cranbourne-based trainer Judy Mawer are now considering Lord Pyrus, a winner of five of their 16 career starts, for the $1 million Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 12.

The CF Orr Stakes Day betting and racing action continues with Race 3 – the $180,000 Group 2 D’Urban Stakes (1400m) due to jump at 2:00pm (AEDST).

The Races.com.au team are tipping an upset in Caulfield Race 3 and are backing Run For Levi to win at juicy odds through Luxbet so bet now!
