Canonbury Stakes Results – Diamond To Pegasus Upsets The Field In Randwick Race 2

Roughie #5 Diamond To Pegasus has come through to win the Canonbury stakes in race 2 at Randwick, paying $46 at Luxbet.

The drama began when #7 Head For The Stars reared in the barriers and became stuck in the gates, but was passed as fit to run after a veterinary exam.

Diamond To Pegasus was also taken out of the stalls during the commotion as a precautionary measure.

Head For The Stars then proceeded to miss the start and #8 Karma Force settled into an early lead followed closely by Diamond To Pegasus.

The favourite #3 Stagger, who was the late mover in the betting market, then sped to the lead at the 600 metres.

Stagger was then challenged by the Fusashi Pegasus gelding Diamond To Pegasus who hit the lead down the home straight.

#4 Written Consent tried to begin his run down the straight, however, was held up for a run in the centre at a crucial time behind Diamond To Pegasus.

Written Consent lodged a protest against Diamond To Pegasus that was eventually dismissed.

Written Consent dived on the line to finish a nose behind the winner and #2 Wild And Proud finished third.

Diamond To Pegasus surprised everyone by winning the 2011 Canonbury Stakes, after failing in his last start at Randwick in the Yellowglen Handicap when he finished fourth in a six horse field.

The two-year-old gelding’s trainer Tony Sergi commented that he is yet to decide on where to send Diamond To Pegasus next.
