2011 Blue Diamond Field Third Declarations

Sepoy

Sepoy is the clear favourite in early betting markets for the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes

The list of juveniles heading towards the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 26 has been cut from 162 to just 63 with the 2011 Blue Diamond Third Declarations taken today.

The number of Blue Diamond Stakes third acceptors is up 12 from 2010.

Clear favourite to win the Blue Diamond Stakes this year is Sepoy, the Darley-owned Elusive Quality colt having soared to the top of the markets after easily winning the Blue Diamond Preview for colts and geldings on Australia Day at Caulfield.

Winner of the fillies Preview, the Peter Moody-trained One Last Dance, is the other early favourite to become the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes winner.

Moody also has six other two-year-olds still entered for the Blue Diamond Stakes field this year including Hotel Grand filly Metonymy and Fastnet Rock gelding Eclair Desire.

Other early favourites in the Blue Diamond betting that were paid up for at third acceptance stage this afternoon include:

  • Anevay (Tim Martin) – Exceed And Excel filly that ran second to One Last Dance in the B.D. Preview
  • Delago’s Lad (John McArdle) – Promising colt that claimed an upset win in the Routley’s Plate at Sandown on Saturday
  • Holdontoyahorses (Mick Price) – Unbeaten Dane Shadow filly
  • Boys On Tour (John P Thompson) – General Nediym gelding still popular despite running fifth on debut in the Routley’s Plate

Notable defectors that are not among the Blue Diamond 2011 third acceptors include:

  • Fortune Of War (David Hayes)
  • Foxwedge (John O’Shea)
  • Bolisimo Miss (Matthew Ellerton & Simon Zahra)
  • Hollyweird (Gerald Ryan)

A number of the Blue Diamond third acceptors have been entered in the $100,000 Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield this weekend including the Peter Moody-trained Covered In Class, Lee Freedman’s Masthead, Mark Kavangh’s colt Fastnet Prince and the unraced Cape Canaveral.

The Danny O’Brien-trained Starcraft colt Cape Canaveral has been one of the big movers in the early Blue Diamond Stakes odds, set to debut on Saturday.

Another two-year-old shortening in the market is Clarry Conner’s daughter of Flying Spur Satin Shoes.

Satin Shoes came into Blue Diamond Stakes contention with an impressive 2 ½ win on debut at Randwick back in October last year.

In her first track appearance since then, Satin Shoes showed she had lost none of her ability with an impressive 4 ¾ length barrier trial win over 900m today at Rosehill.

The $3.5 million Golden Slipper, the richest race for two-year-olds in the world, is also on the agenda for Satin Shoes.

The 2011 Blue Diamond Final Field of acceptances will be released on Tuesday, February 11 with the maximum 16-horse field published right here at Races.com.au.

Betting markets on the Blue Diamond Stakes have briefly been suspended with odds set to shorten on the remaining hopefuls following third acceptances.

Now is the time to open you betting account with Luxbet so you are ready for the Blue Diamond betting action when markets reopen shortly!
