Elwick 2YO Stakes 2011 Final Field & Barriers

The Elwick 2YO Stakes 2011 final field and barriers were released today in anticipation of the Hobart Guineas Day feature set to take place this Sunday, January 23rd at the opening Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival meeting.

The $90,000 Listed Elwick 2YO Stakes (1100m) has drawn a seven-horse final field with the Lee Freedman-trained Chinchilla coming up trumps in the barrier draw set to start from the inside gate one.

Coming off their debut win in a 1000m race at Seymour on January 4 carrying 57kg, Exceed And Excel filly Chinchilla drops back to 55kg for Sunday set to be ridden by Craig Newitt and looks hard to beat.

Top-rated entry in the Elwick 2YO Stakes field, Dean Wells’ More Than Ready gelding More Awesome will jump from barrier four with Daniel Ganderton in the mount.

More Awesome will be one of the favourites in the Hobart race betting markets at Luxbet as they have won two of their three race starts but keep in mind they are having their first-up start after a two month spell.

The other pick for the Trifecta is Oxy Angel, one of two entries in the Elwick Stakes for trainer Terence Evans along with Pittenweem.

Oxy Angel has also drawn ideally with barrier two, the West Quest filly seeking her maiden win after finishing a gallant second in her last three runs, beaten by less than half a length last start.
