2010 Melbourne Cup Odds and Betting Moves

With just over 24 hours to go until the great race, punters have started to back their Melbourne Cup picks.

The Tabcorp owned Luxbet has had some interesting moves in the market. Bart Cummings trained champion So You Think has been backed from $4 into $3.40. The weight of money so far for So You Think to give Bart his 13th Cup is just incredible, for a horse to have firmed up so much – if he gets beat expect the bookmakers to cheer.

The overseas runner Campanologist has met with support and has firmed from $71 into $61 and might be some value for trifectas, he is also $15.5 for the place.

Some money for Shoot Out firming from $41 into $31, we rate the Queenslander a much better winning chance than his odds are indicating.

The biggest move outside the favourite is for Holberg, he has been backed in from $31 into $21, which must indicate significant international money, they must know more than we do.

After getting out to $26, Linton is back into $21, the big grey Lloyd Williams galloper is nice odds still.

Zipping $26, Profound Beauty $26, Mr Medici $61, Buccellati $251 and Maluckyday $10 have all held their odds and have not moved in the market since Saturday.

Shocking has been the big market drifter after opening at $7 has eased out to $11 getting close to the price he was when he won the 2009 Melbourne Cup. If the track is badly rain affected his outside barrier will not be a big disadvantage – after all he sat 3 wide and won last year.

Geelong Cup winner Americain has drifted from $11 out to $13 along with the other international horses Illustrious Blue $31 out to $61 and Manighar $15 out to $21.

Bart Cummings’ other cup hope, Precedence, has eased in the betting markets from $15 to $26 with the weight of support for his other runner.

Other local runners that are friendless in the betting are Once Were Wild $21 out to $31, Harris Tweed $21 out to $26 and Zavite is now $126.

You can place all your Melbourne Cup bets early and online with the TABcorp owned Luxbet, who are giving every single punter that signs up with them today a free $400 bet. You can also take any number of exotic bets from Monday morning with Luxbet – trifectas, quinellas, exactas, quadrellas and first fours – beat the cup rush and get your bets on today with Luxbet.
