Cathay Pacific Airways Cup – Cox Plate Day Race 7

One race out from the much awaited 2010 Cox Plate showdown today is Race 7 – the $250,000 Group 2 Cathay Pacific Airways Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) – due to jump at 4:40pm (AEDST).

The 2010 Moonee Valley Cup features a capacity final field of 15 gallopers with first emergency Sea Galleon moving into the field after the scratching of #12 My Bentley.

The red hot favourite to win the Moonee Valley Cup today is Bart Cummings’ classy Zabeel gelding Precedence currently at $2.50 through Luxbet.

Having won the JRA Cup over this track and distance last month, and coming off a gallant third to Linton in the Herbert Power Stakes, Precedence is also one of the team’s top picks to win.

Moonee Valley – Race 7 – Cathay Pacific Airways Moonee Valley Cup

  • Each Way Favourites: #2 Precedence and #3 Jessicabeel – Luxbet
  • Best Place Bets: #5 Above Average and #6 Master O’Reilly – Luxbet

Precedence is drawn out wider in barrier 10, which is ideal according to connections who have instructed jockey Blake Shinn to go to the outside.

The other runner in the Moonee Valley Cup field we fancy as the best value Each Way pick along with Precedence is Jessicabeel.

Drawn well in barrier five, Sydney Cup winning mare Jessicabeel is at juicy $8 odds to win at Luxbet, punters having held off from her after a disappointing preparation this season.

However, the Zabeel five-year-old is more suited to distance races and will be racing over 2040m for the first time this season so we are tipping her to start showing form on way to the Melbourne Cup.

For extra value and for punters wanting the top selections to add into the exotics, we have specially selected Lee Freedman’s Above Average and veteran runner Master O’Reilly to Place today.
