The first Group 1 feature on today’s Caulfield Guineas Day card jumps as Race 5 at 2:20pm (AEDST) when the highly anticipated $400,000 Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) takes place.
The 2010 Yalumba Stakes final field features six impressive gallopers, with So You Think the red hot favourite dominating the betting markets.
Currently at the very short quote of $1.50 to win the Yalumba through Sportsbet, Bart Cummings’ Cox Plate champion So You Think is the new weight-for-age star on the Australian racing scene and looks hard to beat again today.
High Chaparral four-year-old So You Think has won both of his starts this season, most recently the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at this track and will have the same jockey Steven Arnold aboard today.
With an unbeaten spring record, a good barrier three draw and the advantage of being prepared by the Cups King Bart Cummings, So You Think is the Races.com.au favourite to win.
Caulfield Race 5 – Yalumba Stakes
- Races.com.au Favourite: #6 So You Think – Rated Special to Win at $1.50 Ladbrokes.com.au
- Best Place Bets: #1 Master O’Reilly and #2 Whobegotyou Ladbrokes.com.au
Our best value bet to make on the Yalumba Stakes today is a Place wager on the $101 roughie of the field, Master O’Reilly.
At $26 to Place through Sportsbet, Master O’Reilly could prove the top bet of the day. The Danny O’Brien-trained eight-year-old has been less-than-impressive this season most recently finishing eighth to So You Think in the Underwood.
But, with an ideal barrier one draw and a preference for Dead tracks, we are tipping the veteran to rise in Race 5 at Caulfield today and finish in the money.
Our other favourite runner to Place is proven weight-for-age performer Whobegotyou, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Street Cry gelding is coming off comprehensive win in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley and should be fresh after a month break.
