Decision Time Wins 2010 Stan Fox Stakes but will Miss Rest of Spring Carnival

On Saturday Warwick Farm trainer Clarry Conners experienced a day of great highs and lows when his boom gelding Decision Time won the $175,000 Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) but was later ruled out of the remainder of the spring carnival.

Three-year-old Foreplay gelding Decision Time had been in great form this season coming off a gallant fourth in the Golden Rose before taking out the Heritage Stakes.

Starting the Stan Fox Stakes as the odds-on favourite, Decision Time ($2.90) continued the magic with a brave three-quarter length victory over Top Drop ($9) with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Halekulani ($5) a further half-length away third after leading early on.

Looking set for a great spring with the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington the major goal, Conners’ celebrations were soon marred by the revelation that Decision Time bled from the nostrils post-race earning an automatic three month ban.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Decision Time showed great courage and gusto to hang on to the lead after its hoop noticed something “wasn’t right” with about 200m to go.

The victory increased Decision Time’s record to six wins from 11 starts for over $1.19 million in prize money, which Conners will be looking to add to in the autumn.

The feature race at Randwick on Saturday was the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) where crack sprinter Hay List scored another effortless win.
