Cummings Wins 2010 Underwood Stakes Quinella with So You Think & Dariana

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings secured the first Group 1 quinella of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival on Saturday when stablemates So You Think and Dariana finished one-two in the $350,000 Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).

Winner of last year’s Cox Plate, four-year-old So You Think is the hot favourite to make it back-to-back success in the $3 million weight-for-age feature, shortening into $2.70 at Sportsbet following his win in the 2010 Underwood Stakes.

So You Think ($1.75) backed up his first-up spring win in the Memsie Stakes with another victory, beating Dariana ($31) by two and a half lengths with Metal Bender ($8) a further short-half-head away in third to give Cummings his sixth Underwood Stakes win.

It was also an impressive run from Redoute’s Choice mare Dariana who has overtaken Moudre in the 2010 Caulfield Cup betting, now the $7 favourite at Sportsbet.

Other race results from the Caulfield meeting on Saturday:

  • Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes won by Response over fellow mare No Evidence Needed
  • Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude won by Anacheeva over hot favourite Toorak Toff
  • Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude won by Divorces ahead of Sistine Angle and Panipique
  • Group 3 Naturalism Stakes saw an upset win by Rainbow Styling with favourite Moudre in third
  • Group 3 How Now Stakes won by Valentine Miss

Cummings has named the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 9 as the next big race for So You Think.
