Caulfield Cup Final Field Announced

The final field for the Caulfield Cup has been announced with the Robert Smerdon-trained galloper Light Vision winning the final 18th place.

The results for this Saturday’s BMW Caulfield Cup were announced by the Melbourne Racing Club earlier this afternoon.

Light Vision was chosen ahead of Cup emergencies Baughurst, Shocking, Newport and the Anthony Cummings-trained Miss Darcey due to his higher international and domestic ratings.

Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter also added that the gelding’s win in the 2500m Listed Bart Cummings contributed to his entry.

The six year old will now join some of Australia’s greatest racehorses including the Bart Cummings-trained Viewed and Roman Emperor in this weekend’s $2.5 million race.

With eleven international contestants including two Irish and nine New Zealand horses, the race is set to bring out the best in all the horses.

Bart Cumming’s Viewed is carrying the largest weight of 57 kg however race favourite Predatory Pricer is weighted at 53.5kg.

After the Caulfield Cup, the third declarations for the Melbourne Cup will close on October 26 and the race’s final field will be announced on October 31.
