Short-priced favourite in betting for this afternoon’s Light Fingers Stakes 2016 at Royal Randwick, the John O’Shea-trained Ghisoni has been withdrawn from the race.

Due to run as Randwick Race 3 at 1:55pm (AEDT) on CF Orr Stakes Day, this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Liberty International Underwriters Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) originally featured eight three-year-old fillies.

Leading Light Fingers Stakes betting and tips through Ladbrokes.com.au was Godolphin’s undefeated daughter of Lonhro, Ghisoni.

Shaking up the Light Fingers Stakes odds however, the dual winner was scratched from the line-up after she failed to eat up overnight leading O’Shea to suspect a tooth problem in the progressive youngster.

“She left a little bit of feed last night and she was salivating in her mouth,” O’Shea told the media this morning.

“She might have a little tooth or something there that is aggravating her, but the fact that she left feed was enough for us to pull her out.

“Her temperature is normal and she is bright enough and she is fine enough in that department, but we have decided to be cautious with her at this early stage.”

Ghisoni won back-to-back 1200m races in Sydney back in November and looked impressive defeating an older field in a 1050m Randwick hit-out on January 29.

O’Shea is remaining positive and hopes Ghisoni will be right to kick-off her Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaign in the $175,000 Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Chipping Norton Stakes Day, February 27.

“The disappointing thing about today is that she had an impeccable preparation until right up to 24 hours before the race, so it is very frustrating for the team,” O’Shea said.

“She has made tremendous physical improvement even from December to now and we are really, really happy with her.

“She will continue to improve as she gets older and we are pretty adamant that she has a nice race in her.

“We will probably just wait a fortnight.”

New short-priced favourite in Light Fingers Stakes markets for this afternoon is now the returning Thousand Guineas winner Stay With Me ($4.40 into $2.50) for David Hayes & Tom Dabernig.

Kerrin McEvoy rides the daughter of Street Cry first-up on the back of a good trial behind English over 839m at Randwick late last month, Stay With Me last seen running a brave sixth to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on Derby Day.

Her biggest dangers are perceived to be the in-form Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Kangarilla Joy ($3.40) who shoots for her third win on the trot and the rails-drawn Pearls ($5.50).

Pearls is the remaining runner in the Light Fingers for O’Shea, the Exceed And Excel filly having won in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at the track last September.

She also finished only three quarters of a length away fourth to Speak Fondly last start on October 3 in Randwick’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), and trialled well behind subsequent Eskimo Prince Stakes winner Spill The Beans leading up to her Light Fingers run.
