Universal Law Leads 2015 Fairetha Stakes Field & Odds

Grant Williams’s undefeated three-year-old Universal Law is short-priced favourite to keep his perfect race record intact this Saturday when stepping up to black-type company for the first time in the Fairetha Stakes 2015.

A final field of 11 three-year-old colts and geldings is set to face off in Ascot Race 4 on Lee Steere Stakes Day on the weekend in this year’s $100,000 Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m).

One of the early lead-ups for young Perth gallopers eyeing a November 21 run on Railway Stakes Day in the $500,000 Group 2 W.A. Guineas (1600m) over a mile, the Fairetha Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are dominated by Universal Law at $2.70.

Drawn in barrier seven with WA’s best hoop William Pike continuing his association with the son of Beneteau, Universal Law has won all three of his career starts to date.

The latest of those was his first Ascot run over 1100m on October 24 where he carried 56kg to a quarter-length win over High Tea, form the bookies are tipping him to repeat in tougher company over 300m further with a kilo less on his back.

Universal Law is also one of the best in futures betting for the 2015 WA Guineas paying $13 in all-in markets led by the Fred Kersley-trained Listed Burgess Queen Stakes winning filly Blackwood ($3.40).

Four of Universal Law’s 10 rivals in the Fairetha Stakes this weekend join him under $10 for the win including $5.50 second elect Man Booker who has the outside alley to overcome with Jerry Noske in the saddle.

A winner of his opening three career starts during the winter at Belmont, Daniel Morton’s Discorsi gelding is two runs into this spring – summer prep and was last seen crossing two lengths away fifth to Perfect Reflection in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) at the track on October 21.

Man Booker is also the next shortest-priced WA Guineas hope running in Saturday’s lead-up at $15 for the Group 2 in a couple of weeks over 200m further.

The other single figure Fairetha Stakes hopes are Morton’s other runner London Line ($8) drawn well in barrier four for jockey Jason Brown who rode the gelding to victory over 1500m at Ascot last time out, Williams’s nicely-bred Snitzel gelding See Me Sizzle ($8) and Key To Fame ($9).

Simon Miller prepares Al Maher gelding Key To Fame who is yet to run worse than second in his five runs so far that include back-to-back Belmont wins and two seconds at Ascot over 1500m including behind Carney when beaten a half-length from a wide gate only last Saturday.

London Line and See Me Sizzle are $17 WA Guineas hopes currently while Key To Fame is a $26 outsider for the mile clash.

Other notable Fairetha Stakes acceptors this season include progressive Danehill Express gelding The Cobbla ($11) and last start Ascot winner over 1200m Who Dat Singa ($12) jumping from barrier one.
