2015 The Roses Odds: Ballet Suite the Favourite

Unsurprisingly the Chris Waller-trained Ballet Suite has opened short-priced favourite to win The Roses 2015 at Doomben Racecourse this weekend on way to the Queensland Oaks where she’ll face off with her star stablemate Winx.

Waller has a stranglehold on the markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for Saturday week’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks preparing the best two in betting, one of which runs in the traditional lead-up on Doomben 10,000 Day this weekend.

High Chaparral filly Ballet Suite is second pick in the Oaks odds but pays $2.50 as the current favourite for Saturday’s $175,000 Group 1 Urbis The Roses (2020m), which has produced nine of the past 10 Queensland Oaks winners.

Drawn in barrier eight with Kerrin McEvoy to ride Waller’s filly is after back-to-back Doomben wins after beating home Bohemian Lily at the track in the Listed Princess Stakes (2000m) at the start of the month.

Just two of her 14 rivals are also at single figures in the latest The Roses betting markets with Platinum Witness ($3.60) and market mover Bohemian Lily ($6).

Drawn one inside the favourite with gate seven and Damian Browne riding, visiting Kiwi raider Platinum Witness debuts down under on the weekend.

The Lisa Latta-trained daughter of California Dane ran second in the Group 1 NZ Oaks (2400m) in mid-March and was last seen finishing second over the unsuitably short 1400m on May 9 ahead of her maiden Australian run.

Money has been steady meanwhile for Bohemian Lily in from $7 to $6 to turn the tables on her last start conqueror after the Gai Waterhouse-trained daughter of O’Reilly ran second to Ballet Suite in the Princess Stakes on the back of a win in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) the start before.

She’s drawn wider for the weekend in barrier 11 but has jockey Blake Shinn in the saddle retaining the ride.

Outside the top three in The Roses betting are a host of other notable chances with livewire claims at a nice price including the Sue Walsh-trained Exquisite Jewel ($11) and Sebrina ($12) for Bjorn Baker.

The second best fancied New Zealander in the mix, Lucky Unicorn filly Exquisite Jewel is another NZ Oaks graduate who ran fourth before a Group 3 win over 2000m later that month and a last start second back home over 2100m in the mud in Group 2 company behind Werther.

Werther made the trip to Oz a little earlier and franked the form coming out of the New Zealand race when runner-up to Delicacy in the Group 1 SA Derby (2500m) in Adelaide on May 9.

Sebrina meanwhile jumps from out wide in barrier 13 with Glen Boss riding the daughter of Sebring who was last seen winning over 1600m at Warwick Farm on May 6 on a Heavy (9) track with apprentice Brodie Loy aboard for the weight relief.
