2015 Lord Mayors Cup Field & Odds

One of three black-type races on an extended 10-event Rosehill meeting in Sydney on Saturday, the Lord Mayors Cup 2015 field and odds for this weekend are currently led by the David Vandyke-trained mare Arabian Gold.

The four-year-old daughter of Dubawi hasn’t won a race since her first-up victory in the Group 3 Golden Pendant at Rosehill back in September last year, but is out to atone and break the drought in the $100,000 Listed Fujitsu Air Lord Mayors Cup (2000m).

She has a few obstacles to overcome however including the equal 59kg top weight in the handicap clash, a wide gate 10 of 17 draw and a below par ninth last time out at the Gold Coast in the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

All of that aside, the bookmakers are still tipping Arabian Gold as one of the top hopes as she sits at an equal $6 price with Ecuador in the latest Lord Mayors Cup odds.

She is also tipped to improve on her recent form getting up over 2000m for the first time this season, a distance the always-honest grey boasts four wins from five starts over.

As mentioned, Ecuador is current co-favourite with Arabian Gold in the Lord Mayors Cup markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, Gai Waterhouse’s High Chaparral five-year-old out to overcome barrier 13 with Thomas Huet in the saddle on 57.5kg.

Group 1 performed in October of 2013 when just a length away sixth to Boban in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), since then the five-year-old has had just four runs having returned from a year-long break on April 18^th to run second to Rugged Cross in the Royal Randwick 100.

Outside the two favourites are then three other single figure Lord Mayors Cup hopes including Malice ($7) in barrier nine with Sam Clipperton riding.

Prepared by Godolphin’s John O’Shea, Teofilo four-year-old Malice won the Listed ATC Cup at this track and distance last November before a first-up second in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude in late March this autumn.

His final lead-up into Saturday’s clash was a sixth to Gypsy Diamond in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick, a race the bookies are rating the form of across a host of subsequent races around the tracks this weekend.

The other hopes under $10 for the win are then the in-form Chris Waller-trained grey Silverball ($8) in barrier 15 shooting for his third win from four recent runs and stablemate Intimate Moment ($9) drawn far better in barrier three for jockey Kathy O’Hara – the mare fourth in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes just two runs back.

The next best in betting at more generous prices are then the likes of Joe Pride’s Street Sense four-year-old Sense Of Occasion ($10) who has winning form up to 2200m and who comes off a mile run at Randwick from Anzac Day, JRA Plate third placegetter Signing Flame ($11) and Pride’s other runner Destiny’s Kiss ($12) who was fourth in the same Sydney lead-up.
