Waller Confirms Classy Pair for 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara

Trainer Chris Waller is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the season-closing Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on June 21^st, confirming exciting stable mates Red Tracer and Catkins are close to certain starters.

A noted performer in events over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival in seasons gone by, Red Tracer was unlucky to finish tenth in her first-up appearance this time in in last weekend’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) when flashing home from the rear of the pack.

While unable to figure in the race’s concluding stages, Liam Prior, stable manager for Waller said the team was pleased with Red Tracer’s performance and are looking forward to a defence of her 2013 Tattersall’s Tiara title.

“We were happy with her run,” Prior told TVN.

“Obviously, she didn’t have any luck and they ran home their final 600 in 33.7 seconds.

“The more you watch the replay, the more you come to the conclusion it wasn’t that bad a run.”

Resounding favourite to claim last weekend’s Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm, Catkins was scratched from the final field on Friday after becoming cast in her box, however has reportedly emerged in perfect condition and will take her place in the Tatt’s Tiara.

“I don’t think it’s anything too serious,” Prior added.

Arguably hitting career best form over the 2013 racing calendar, Red Tracer won both the Dane Ripper Stakes and Tattersall’s Tiara and continued to build in class through an impressive spring preparation, which included a memorable triumph in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).

Claiming a total of 11 race wins and seven minor places from just 22 competitive race starts to date, Catkins is arguably the most talented current Australian racehorse yet to break through for a Group 1 victory.

Unlucky to finish second to Red Tracer in the Myer Classic during spring, the Dubawi mare returned to the track in career-best form this year; winning both the Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) before placing a fighting third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22^nd most notably.
