Murray Baker’s five-time Group 1 winning Kiwi It’s A Dundeel will look to add yet another elite level Aussie trophy to his cabinet this Saturday as they head the field for the Chipping Norton Stakes 2014.

Just eight of the original dozen entries paid final acceptance fees for this year’s $500,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) which highlights the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival action at Warwick Farm this weekend.

The headline acceptor and big winner in the Chipping Norton Stakes barrier draw is High Chaparral four-year-old It’s A Dundeel set to get the run of the race from the inside alley with regular rider James McDonald continuing his association.

First entering the Group 1 winners’ stall as a three-year-old in the 2012 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick, It’s A Dundeel has continued to make his mark on the Australian racing scene.

His four other Group 1s included a six length romp in last year’s Australian Derby, and most recently their narrow success in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield during the spring.

On Saturday It’s A Dundeel will be resuming off a four month spell, their last performance a below par eighth to maiden three-year-old Shamus Award in the iconic Cox Plate.

They come into the Chipping Norton however on the back of a winning barrier trial at Randwick from February 24 giving Baker the confidence they can return with a win for the punters.

The most notable non-acceptor for the Chipping Norton Stakes field meanwhile was top three-year-old El Roca.

The 2014 Doncaster Mile-bound three-year-old to take on an easier field over 1300m in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup at the meeting instead.

Chris Waller meanwhile plays a strong hand in the Chipping Norton Stakes once again with a trio of stable mates accepted for.

That trio is led by Emirates Stakes winner Boban in barrier four with Glyn Schofield riding.

Considered Waller’s best chance of securing his third straight Chipping Norton trophy following the victories of Shoot Out (2012-13), Bernardini four-year-old Boban is third-up for the season having last run a brave fourth in the Apollo Stakes.

Waller’s two other hopes this year are then last year’s Queensland Derby hero Hawkspur (barrier five) and Moriarty (barrier seven) who comes off a third in the Group 2 Apollo won by Doncaster favourite Appearance.

There are also two last start winners in the mix this autumn with Ron Quinton’s veteran galloper Monton coming via some lower key Sydney races who is out to improve on a devastatingly close second as a 30-1 roughie last year, and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Encosta De Lago colt Order Of The Sun.

Drawn in the outside gate with Tommy Berry to ride the lightly-raced Order Of The Sun lines up for just their sixth career start having won three of their previous runs including their latest at Randwick on February 8.

Waterhouse will also be represented in barrier six by proven Group 1 performer Glencadam Gold.

Prince Cheri (barrier three) then rounds out this year’s Chipping Norton line-up racing for the first time since their close sixth, beaten just one and a half lengths, in the Group 1 The Metropolitan back in early October.
