The first day of the 2011 Scone Carnival has been a massive success with huge crowds on hand to cheer home Dysphonia in the Scone Cup.

The race was full of drama from the outset with the favourite Pureness out of it from the very beginning.

With Nash Rawiller onboard the horse reared in the stalls as they opened and missed the jump by at least six lengths.

Eventually Pureness managed to re-join but by then it was too late exhausting far too much energy to regain position.

Mr Unforgettable was first as they straightened with Willy Jimmy right on his tail.

Willy Jimmy took some huge bets just before the race jumped with plenty of last minute support for the outsider.

The rest of the field couldn’t make much of an impact as they were halfway down the straight until a huge move from Dysphonia out wide.

In a matter of a few strides Dysphonia had closed the gap and gone to the lead to massively boost the temp as they neared the line.

Once he hit the lead he didn’t kick clear though and the early leaders came back at him but the margin was too great and he won by a comfortable margin.

Willy Jimmy was game two wide the trip and fought hard on the inside to claim second spot.

The rails run of Mt Unforgettable paid off to some degree crossing the line third with another clear gap back to the pack.

The big outsider Slick Sniper was fourth horse across the line beating a host of his more fancied rivals.

The major talking point though will be Pureness after that horror start, something that occurred a few starts back at Rosehill as well.

In that race the horse still managed to win but in quality fields it simply won’t happen.

Another who had a race to forget is Hugh Bowman aboard Fanjura.

Second favourite in the race and in career best form Fanjura never had a run in the final 600m with Bowman caught too deep behind horses to give his galloper any chance of winning.

It’s definitely one to watch next time out when connections deserve a lot more luck.

The Scone Cup belongs to Dysphonia though, a double figure chance going into the race but after displaying that turn of foot he’ll be a lot shorter next time out.
