2023 Golden Rose Final Field & Barrier Draw: Cylinder Favourite In 6

2023 Golden Rose Field Update: #6 Libertad (7) scratched.

The official 2023 Golden Rose final field and barrier draw for Saturday’s $1 million feature race for three-year-olds at Rosehill is now out with early favourite Cylinder drawn well mid-field in barrier six.

Thirteen hopefuls take to the track for this year’s Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) including the well-supported top elect Cylinder for Godolphin.

The James Cummings-trained Run To The Rose winner chases the double jumping from barrier six with airborne hoop Nash Rawiller in the saddle.

Rawiller was enormous in Sydney last Saturday with outstanding rides aboard Think It Over in the $1 million 7 Stakes (1600m) and the now The Everest confirmed Private Eye in the Group 2 $1 million The Shorts (1100m) to claim the two features at Randwick.

He could be in for another big day this weekend at Rosehill Gardens with the Godolphin-raced Cylinder looking to complete the Run To The Rose – Golden Rose double for the first time since Bivouac (2019) in the same Royal Blue colours.

Cylinder is the current $3.50 favourite in the Golden Rose markets.

Champion trainer Chris Waller will saddle-up two horses in the Golden Rose Stakes field.

Waller is after his third Golden Rose trophy having won in 2013 with Zoustar and 2018 with The Autumn Sun.

His leading hopeful this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival sitting near the top of the latest Golden Rose odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au is returning Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Shinzo ($5) to be ridden by Ryan Moore.

The classy son of Snitzel races first-up for the spring making his three-year-old debut off a winning Rosehill barrier trial last month when defeating Zaaki in the hit-out.

Waller’s other runner in the 2023 Golden Rose field is Militarize drawn a treat in gate two with the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira booked for the ride.

Dundeel colt Militarize is another Group 1 winner as a juvenile having taken out the Inglis Sires’ – Champagne Stakes double in Sydney over the autumn.

He was eye-catching fresh in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) only three-quarters of a length fifth to Cylinder with improvement to come getting out over more distance in this weekend’s rematch.

Militarize currently pays around $9 in Golden Rose betting and looks a value chance at the upset.

The other best in betting at $7 is the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained King Colorado in gate nine with Jason Collett booked for the ride.

The Kingman colt enjoyed a mile Group 1 win in Brisbane’s J.J. Atkins over the winter before a bold showing first-up against the older horses when ninth in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) on August 19 behind Fangirl.

He presents fitter second-up here and will appreciate coming back against his own kind, and he has been kept fit with a recent Randwick barrier trial win.

Maher & Eustace also saddle-up Nadal from the far outside alley (13 of 13) with the Xtravagant colt coming off a Run To The Rose third.

Another key single-figure fancy to win the Golden Rose is the in-form Charm Stone ($8) for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.

The daughter of I Am Invincible is the only filly taking on the boys this weekend.

Forensics back in 2008 was the last Golden Rose winning filly, but Charm Stone presents as a genuine hope to be the next this weekend coming off back-to-back stakes wins this prep.

Rounding out the current hopes under $10 is last start Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality winner at the track and trip Encap ($9) for Gary Portelli.

The talented and progressive Capitalist gelding jumps from barrier three this weekend.
