Early entries for the world’s richest race for four-year-olds closed on Monday and it is the talented Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained mare, Sheza Alibi, installed as the hot early favourite to win the 2026 Golden Eagle.

The Australian Turf Club (ATC) received a bumper 112 nominations for this year’s $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) with Randwick Racecourse host to the eighth edition of the event and first as a newly instated Group 1 race.

Heading all-in Golden Eagle betting on the nominees at Ladbrokes is Saxon Warrior mare Sheza Alibi who is already installed at an odds-on quote of $1.80 to beat home her fellow four-year-olds in the Sydney feature.

A seven-time winner from 12 starts at time of publish, Sheza Alibi was a revelation for the stable over the autumn claiming the Group 1 Randwick Guineas – Doncaster Mile double over the Randwick 1600m course.

She resumed for the spring running a brave second to last year’s Golden Eagle winning mare, Autumn Glow, in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) impressing jockey Luke Nolen with her fresh performance.

“Terrific,” Nolan said of Sheza Alibi’s first-up performance.

“We are in for a really good prep. She kept closing.

“The other mare (Autumn Glow) has had a few more pre-seasons than we have. She was a bit sharp for us today. She deserves to be in this company.”

Moody & Coleman have a trio of Golden Eagle entries with the hot favourite joined in the list of nominations by Victorious Spirit and last year’s Thousand Guineas winner Ole Dancer.

To date, Chris Waller is the only trainer to prepare multiple Golden Eagle winners after his success in the inaugural race with Kolding (2019) and the aforementioned reigning queen Autumn Glow (2025).

This season the master horseman has 22 nominations in his attempt at a third trophy to add the cabinet led by the current $9 second elect and sole other single-figure fancy in Golden Eagle betting, Beiwacht.

The Bivouac entire, winner of the All Aged Stakes in the autumn as well as last year’s Golden Rose, came out firing on all cylinders at Caulfield on August 29 demolishing his rivals in a three-length romp home over evergreen nine-year-old Mr Brightside in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m).

The victory set him up for another big campaign and jockey Nash Rawiller was full of post-race praise for the still improving and now very valuable galloper.

“What a thrill,” Rawiller told Racing Victoria.

“You know, I just pray all week that he’d come out and do something like that, but it’s like a dream come true when he has.

“He’s always been a lovely colt and, you know, an entire as a four-year-old, but he just went to a new level today, there’s no doubt about that.”

Among the other standout Golden Eagle nominations for Waller are Rosehill Guineas champ Autumn Boy who ran a distant second to Sheza Alibi in the Doncaster quinella, NZ Oaks winner Ohope Wins, Australian Guineas third placegetter Sixties and the untapped Mr Miller.

The other key mare in the mix looking to become the third to beat home the boys in the Golden Eagle results is Stephen Marsh‘s currently undefeated Kiwi raider Well Written ($11).

The bonny daughter of Written Tycoon has won her opening seven career starts across the Tasman including a six-length demolition job in the Karaka 3YO Millions, the $3 million The Kiwi at even money and last weekend’s Group 1 Proisir Plate first-up at Ellerslie as the odds-on favourite.

She’s also among the key 2026 Epsom Handicap nominations and early favourites for her spring bid down under and is sure to get plenty of market support between now and then should she bring her A-game to Australia.

Other four-year-olds being kept safe in the futures Golden Eagle odds include the Michael Freedman-trained Ninja ($13) who won the Group 2 Missile Stakes first-up this prep, Peter Snowden‘s son of Snitzel Beadman ($15) who ran out of his skin for a surprise third fresh in the $1 million Concorde Stakes (1000m) last weekend and last year’s Golden Rose fourth placegetter Skyhook.

The official Golden Eagle 2026 final field will be released at 9:00am on Tuesday October 27.
