Derby Day is a day for racing purists, all nine races on the card holding Group status including four elite levels.

Due to run as Flemington Race 6 at 3:00pm (AEDT) is the Group 1 $1.5 million Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), the field for which is down to 14 after the early scratching of the Godolphin-raced Microphone.

A two-time winner down the straight at HQ, the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner was rated a $10 chance in the Coolmore before an unsatisfactory blood result on Friday saw Microphone withdrawn.

Stablemate Bivouac remains top of the Coolmore Stud Stakes odds at $3.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au, the deserving favourite looking to atone for the Group 1 Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m) loss.

The Golden Rose champ was odds-on in The Valley evening feature on Cox Plate eve but got caught up on the tight track only managing to run sixth behind Loving Gaby.

It was a similar story 12 months ago for the filly Sunlight (2018) who atoned for an unplaced Manikato run to win the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Occupying the second line of betting at $4 is the Golden Rose third placed Exceedance followed by the Anthony Cummings-trained filly Libertini ($4.60) who has been freshened-up for her assignment against the boys here.

To help sort the winning hopes from the no hopers in the Coolmore Stud Stakes 2019, check out our tips below before heading to Ladbrokes.com.au for all the weekend’s top racing odds and offers.

To Win: #12 Libertini ($4.60)

Tipping back-to-back Coolmore Stud Stakes wins by the fillies. This well-balanced daughter of I Am Invincible looks like she’ll thrive down the straight at HQ and she’s drawn to win in gate five. Damien Oliver replaces Tommy Berry aboard the Silver Shadow – Furious Stakes double winner whose lead up saw her only 0.2 lengths beaten in the Tea Rose running third in the blanket finish. That was over 1400m and back to the 1200m (3:3-0-0) having been kept fresh, she’ll be near the front and a genuine winning hope at a nice price.

The Danger: #2 Bivouac ($3.50)

Deserving favourite with Hugh Bowman on from a good gate looking for atonement. No guarantees he would’ve won the Manikato with a clearer run, but highly likely. He’ll be better here on the short back-up and any rain around will help. He’s got excellent form on Soft and Heavy going so no issues if the track gets downgraded.

Each Way: #5 Cosmic Force ($7.50)

Peter & Paul Snowden’s Deep Field colt won the Group 2 Roman Consul by 1.3 lengths second-up, a race that has produced plenty of Coolmore winners in recent history. Another genuine mudlark so if the storms dump plenty of rain on Flemington, this is one of the leading chances. Stormed home in the Group 3 Pago Pago on a Heavy (10) at Rosehill during the autumn and presents fit third-up here.

Best Roughie: #14 Brooklyn Hustle ($21)

Nice price on Luke Nolen’s mount, the Jason Warren-trained Starspangledbanner filly coming off a third in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield on October 16. Winner of that Anaheed went on to place third in the Manikato Stakes so the form looks strong. Only 1.4 lengths beaten in the Blue Diamond Stakes as a two-year-old and should be ready for a big run. Can surprise.
