Libertini $1.18 Favourite in 2019 Furious Stakes Odds

There looks zero value in the Furious Stakes 2019 odds at Randwick this weekend with impressive Silver Shadow Stakes winning filly Libertini at an incredibly short $1.18 to win the Group 2 on Chelmsford Stakes Day.

The Anthony Cummings-trained daughter of I Am Invincible is one of just seven three-year-old fillies facing off in this year’s Group 2 $200,000 Darley Furious Stakes (1200m) and she is being backed like she is the only one in the race.

A winner of three of her four career starts to date, Libertini’s sole loss was her second on debut in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) back in April.

That form has more than held up with the winner Bivouac going on to win the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield first-up before his second as the beaten odds-on favourite when a Heavy (9) track got the better of him in last Saturday’s Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

Libertini meanwhile was also a big star first-up when she saluted in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) by 2.3 lengths on August 24 at Randwick.

Her winning time of 1:07.93 that day was slick, and Cummings is just hoping she can repeat the effort having pulled up from the run well.

“She was obviously fit first-up and when they run those sorts of times, even though they look to do it comfortably, it’s still fast,” Cummings said this week.

“The issue then becomes, can they repeat it second-up?

“Usually the best guide is the feed bin and she came home and licked the bin clean that night and every night since so if that’s the indicator, we’re going pretty good.”

Returning to the track with the benefit of a run, she looks a hard-to-beat favourite in barrier three with Tommy Berry continuing his association.

Still, Cummings believes there are a few fillies in the field that should be at shorter odds including Godolphin’s Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi.

“You’ve always got to respect your opposition,” he said.

“They’re all there because they’ve made their own mark in some shape or form and you’ve got to give due respect to that, otherwise you get your pants pulled down.

“But her work has been good, there’s no issues, no hang-ups, nothing. We’re just hanging around waiting for Saturday.”

Kiamichi is at $17 in the latest Furious Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au after the daughter of Sidestep ran a disappointing first-up 10th behind Mizzy in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1100m).

Outside of the hot favourite Libertini, the other best fancied filly in the Furious Stakes betting markets this season is $7 second elect Villami.

A nicely-bred daughter of Foxwedge prepared by Gerald Ryan, Villami has won one of her four starts to date and is out to improve on her first-up fourth in the Silver Shadow Stakes.

The market mover meanwhile backed in early from $20 to $14 to score the upset is the rails-drawn Probabeel.

Prepared across the Tasman by star Matamata-based trainer Jamie Richards, this visiting Savabeel filly has her third Aussie start on the weekend after two unplaced but eye-catching autumn runs.

The latest was a fifth when under two lengths beaten in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce (1400m) in early April, and fresh on a wet track from the inside alley she is a genuine place chance at odds.

Rounding out the field in the Furious Stakes for 2019 are Bjorn Baker’s ultra-consistent Redoute’s Choice filly Let It Pour ($12) coming off a Silver Shadow third, last start Hawkesbury winner Darling Point ($51) rising notably in class and Baker’s other runner Bright Rubick ($51).

The 2019 Darley Furious Stakes is due to run as Randwick Race 5 at 2:35pm (AEST) on Saturday.
