Tattersall’s Tiara 2019 Odds Update: Pohutukawa Favourite

The Godolphin-raced filly Pohutukawa is race eve favourite in 2019 Tattersall’s Tiara betting to take out the season’s final Group 1 race this Saturday at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

It is shaping-up as an open edition of the weight-for-age Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m), which is the marquee event on the nine-race card in Brisbane this weekend.

The latest Tattersall’s Tiara odds online at Ladbrokes.com.au feature three single-figure hopefuls and a host of other chances under $20 for the win.

Leading the way at $5 and firming is one of two James Cummings-trained Medaglia D’Oro fillies in the mix, Pohutukawa ($5) chasing her first win since the Group 2 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) over the mile back in mid-March.

She comes off a lead-up third when under a length beaten by the in-form Kolding in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Handicap Day a fortnight back.

Pohutukawa drops back in distance for her Group 1 test against the older mares on Saturday and was one of the big winners at the Tatt’s Tiara barrier draw coming up with gate five for her hoop Blake Shinn.

One of the hard luck stories in the Guineas when held-up in the home straight, Pohutukawa should be finishing off strongly and looks a genuine winning hope for the punters.

The Tiara favourite is joined in the capacity field by two of her stablemates with Savatiano ($6.50) and market mover Multaja ($7.50) the other best in betting.

Tommy Berry rides Street Cry four-year-old Savatiano who hasn’t raced since her 2.75 length romp home in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1300m) at the track back on May 25.

She has been kept fit since with a winning Gold Coast hit-out over 1000m on June 11 and from her wide barrier in the Tiara she will be looking to get up on the speed early to put herself in a winning position.

Multaja has also been a popular punt for Godolphin to win the Tattersall’s Tiara crown this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, the filly firming in from $9.50 to $7.50.

Veteran hoop Jeff Lloyd partners the flying three-year-old who has finished worse than second just four times in her 12-start career to date.

Her last start was at Doomben on June 1 when she easily won the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m) by nearly two lengths and Saturday sees her head to Queensland’s other major track for the first time.

Outside of the dominant Godolphin trio the other stable tipped to dominate the Tattersall’s Tiara results on Saturday is trainer Chris Waller.

Prompt Response returns shooting for back-to-back wins having won last year’s edition when prepared by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.

She’s a $14 chance after a close third last time out in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) and one of five in the mix for Waller.

Waller’s best fancied chance is two-time Dane Ripper winner Invincibella ($11) who has a 50% winning strike rate this prep.

Also at $11 is Robert Sangster Stakes winning mare Spright coming off a fourth in the Stradbroke Handicap at the track and distance.

She’s a class mare chasing a start in this spring’s The Everest 2019 field but from six goes at 1400m has finished in the money just once.
