Jukebox Firms in 2017 Vain Stakes Betting Markets

Thirteen colts and geldings remain in contention for Saturday’s Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse following the scratching of King’s Authority; offering punters plenty of value from a betting perspective.

Jukebox opened at Vain Stakes odds of $5 with Ladbrokes.com.au on Wednesday afternoon, but has already heralded plenty of interest and has firmed onto the top line at a current $3.60 quote.

Debuting for a strong win at Geelong on January 12th, Jukebox was last seen savaging the line for a two-length triumph in the Inglis Premier (1200m) on February.

Trainer Ciaron Maher has been thrilled with everything that the talented colt has done in the lead-up to his competitive return and he should prove extremely difficult to beat in the Vain Stakes.

Kobayashi has also continued to attract steady support in 2017 Vain Stakes betting markets and remains the sole occupant of the second line at a generous $5.50 quote.

Eighth in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) on debut in November, Kobayashi resumed this year for a credible third in a talent-rich 1000m sprint at The Valley on March 17th.

Breaking through for his first race win in the Wellington Racing Club Handicap (1200m) on April 8th, the I Am Invincible colt was last seen storming home to win the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1200m) by three lengths on April 29th.

Charged with overcome the outside barrier, Kobayashi’s obvious class is sure to count for plenty when he takes his place in the Vain Stakes field.

Neither Veranillo nor Cliff’s Edge have drawn much more than a sprinkling of bets in Vain Stakes markets, but the pair remain tied on the third line of betting at $8.50 quotes.

Godolphin runner Veranillo is one of the more experienced horses confirmed in the Vain Stakes field and is a live chance of winning the race after trialling well.

Resuming this year for a smart win in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m), the Medaglia D’Oro colt placed second behind She Will Reign in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) before running third in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m).

Running eighth in the Golden Slipper, Veranillo had clearly had enough by the time he placed eighth in the Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships, but clearly flies fresh and has drawn ideally into the Vain Stakes field.

Cliff’s Edge has yet to contest a race under black type conditions, but he has a fitness edge on several of his Vain Stakes rivals and has been races well amongst strong company.

Second on debut at Ballarat on May 14th, the Canford Cliffs colt was last seen comfortably winning the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1200m) on May 27th.
