The Group 1 $1 million VRC Oaks (2500m) is calling for the progressive Danny O’Brien trained Getta Good Feeling after she shrugged off her maiden status with a narrow victory in the 2025 Edward Manifold Stakes results at Flemington on Saturday.

The up-and-coming young daughter of So You Think handled a notable rise in grade coming off three top three performances at Geelong, Sandown Lakeside and Sale respectively to salute in an upset over the beaten favourite Just A Journey in the Group 2 $300,000 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) on Turnbull Stakes Day with Mating Call third.
In a perfectly timed ride by Billy Egan, the 16/1 roughie hope relished her first trip to HQ and the step up to a mile charging up the middle the closing stages in a blistering late run to wear down the front-running top fancy and post a devastatingly close victory.
“I was trying to remain calm, but I was running out of time, and I thought I had to bowl someone over or do something to get out and get going,” Egan said after the victory.
“She’s had plenty of trials under her belt. She’s been well schooled, well educated, so she knew what she was doing coming here.
“She was crowded in restricted room so she might have been a bit claustrophobic in there, so she did quite to get there from behind there.”
O’Brien was quick to confirm the VRC Oaks back at the track on November 6 during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, a race he won back in 2019 with Miami Bound, as the grand final spring assignment for his surprise Edward Manifold winner.
“She’s our filly for the Oaks this season,” he told Racing Victoria after the win.
“We always planned to get her here for the Wakeful and the Oaks.”
The Group 2 $300,000 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) runs on Victoria Derby Day the Saturday prior to the Oaks.
O’Brien made the call to scratch Getta Good Feeling from a maiden race at Geelong on Thursday proved the right move as she proved too strong for her better fancied rivals in Saturday’s Group 2 to celebrate her first turf triumph.
“When we drew well here, we thought she’d be very competitive and also to give her a look at Flemington before Cup Week. It was hard (to make the decision),” he said.
“She was going to be a good thing beaten. Unfortunately, she was in a bit of traffic when the race got moving and Billy had to wait and wait and wait.
“When things got moving, she hit the line, and we’ve seen a little glimpse of what she’ll be able to do when she gets to a Wakeful and an Oaks.
“Getting out to the mile at a big track, we always thought she’d attack the line.
“The way she launched late give us plenty of confidence for the rest of the spring.”
Zardozi (2023) was the last filly to complete the Edward Manifold Stakes – VRC Oaks double.
The all-in price at Ladbrokes.com.au for Getta Good Feeling to win this year’s Oaks race at Flemington has been slashed in from $51 to $7 seeing her sit on the top line of betting equal with Queen Of Clubs and favourite for today’s Flight Stakes in Sydney – Apocalyptic.
Before targeting the Wakeful and Oaks at Flemington, O’Brien said Getta Good Feeling would have her next start at Caulfield in either the Group 1 $1.5 million Thousand Guineas (1600m) or the Group 3 $240,000 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) on Caulfield Cup Day (October 18).
“She’ll run at Caulfield,” he said.
“The Thousand Guineas and the Ethereal are on the same day but I’ll have a chat to Jonathon (owner/breeder Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing).
“She’s nommed for the Thousand Guineas and we’ll decided which one she runs in closer to the date.”
Getta Good Feeling firmed notably in 2025 Thousand Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au right in from $101 to $8.
The last filly to complete the Edward Manifold – Thousand Guineas double was Amphitrite (2018).
